I woke up to silence, which isn't usual. I don't smell the salad my mom makes, which isn't a good sign.
Did they get them? Are they waiting for me to get out so they can kill me?
I get my crossbow and get out as fast as I can
My mom is the first to scream "Fauna! What are you doing?"
Only after that I take a moment to look around, my mom is sitting down at the kitchen, and my dad is drinking coffee while watching the outside through the window.
Next to my mom is a woman, around her age, she's blonde, very tall and with pointy ears "Hey dear" She gets up and tries to get closer to me, I take a step back, still with my guards up "I'm Ashyn, I think your mom mentioned me?" She watches me atently, when my posture doesn't change she continues "I'm here to help you"
I still don't answer, and I look at my dad for guidance, but he's still turned to the window
"Fauna dear, Ahyn will make you some wings, for them to be perfect you'll have to wait a few days, in the meantime" She hands me a pair of small ones, like the kids had at my school. I'm only 8 years late "Use these, it'll convince them that you're growing into a fairy"
"It took me all night" She said softly
I have the nerve to ask "Why are you doing this?"
Her gaze lingers on me for a second later than normal, then she wipes her tears "Because ..." She takes a second to gather her thoughts "If it had been my daughter, I'd want someone to help her too"
"What about my real report dad? Where is it?"
My mom answers for him "He hid it in his room, in a safe box that no one but us can open" she looks at me for an answer, when I don't give it to her she continues "Don't be nervous sweetheart, we'll protect you"
"I don't want protection" I say before getting out of the house, grabbing my backpack at the entrance.
My dad's behavior is worrying me, this house is almost choking me with their pitty. I know they only want what's best for me, and I'm so thankful that Ahyn is helping. But the way I feel in there, it's almost as if I'm a menace to everyone.
As I step into the forest, I hit the usual branches and targets when I suddently hear a horn, a familiar horn, it's the royal one, which means there's an important announcment being made.
I put the cross bow in my backback and carelessly make my way into the central of the city. When I get there some Eadonth's warriors are scanning through the crowd, pissed.
"A mistake has been made" Is the first thing one of them says, earning a gasp from everyone "Someone changed the result of one of you"
The reaction through the crowd was nothing like I've ever seen. Some people started to run, others cried, and then some of them were just like me, shockingly looking at the guards, who don't change their pissed expression. Righfully so, chsnging the result means betraying the whole kingdom, and it's the first time someone does that.
Another guard steps forward "The traitor has 24 hours to come forward, otherwise we will find them, and kill them"
I immediatly make my way through the crowd, not caring if I hit some fairys.
They'll know it's me, of course they will, I look like a human through and through. Even the guard didn't believe it after I got out of the tent.
And if they find out my dad was the one who tested me, they'll know for sure it was him.
I don't wait to close the door before I tell everyone "I'm going to tell everyone the truth" earning a gasp from my mom.
"You're not doing anything!" Shecries out "I can't lose you!"
"Would you rather losing me and dad?" I snap, earning a gasp from her "I'm human mom, I can't live a lie forever, even though someone in my family clearly did, I can't do this to you, I can't get dad killed, or who knows, they can kill you for keeping it a secret!"
"They can kill us after they kill you!"
"I won't let them kill you both, I'll tell them I forced dad, and I'll handle anyone who doesn't believe me" I hug her "You won't have to worry about anything mom"
"I won't let you!" She cries.
My dad is still looking out the window, now with tea in his hand. He's been like this for a long time, finally he turns around "You'd kill someone for us?"
"Of course, you know how good I am with the crossbow"
"Yeah, but they're trained guards"
"Please, I've never seen anyone as descordinated as them" I mock "If anything they should be asking me for lessons" I notice him smiling admirably at me "I won't let them do anything to you guys, it's not your fault, I'll do anything, I'll kill the king if needed"
"Honey please stop it" My mom holds my arms "Don't do this, you won't even know if they'll caught you"
"Did you not hear the announcement?" I asked and she nods silently "They caught me"
"Darling please, they'll never caught you, go to sleep please, tomorrow you won't go to school. Stay here with us"
"Okay, I won't do anything" I lied as I made my way to my room.
It was stupid of me thinking that my parents would agree with me wanting to tell people I'm human. I already know their stupid plan won't work. I'll never fly with those wings, and that'll be suspicious enough for them to call the guards and I'll be killed anyway. I'll never master their spells, and that'll be suspicion enough. The wings will not be convincing enough, and there's nothing that I can do to make them believe me.
Maybe if I turn myself in they'll pity me and let me live in the human world. But for now I know I can't stay here, I can't live this so short lived lie.
When it gets dark I sneak into my dad's office. There's a small wooden box, I tippy toe to it and kneel down, then open it.
It's empty.
I'm immediatly alert, did anyone steal it? There's no way they would otherwise I'd be already dead before I woke up. So where is it?
I make my way into his bookshelf, opening up as many books as I can without making any noise, then I investigate the floors, nothing.
I dress all black and walk into the tents, they'll never know I was here, the only way is if anyone sees me.
I walk into his tent and open another wooden box there, which has the familiar black liquid in the small board.
I make my way into my home. Deciding to know more about the human species and how they come here, I make my way into my dad's office as soon as I get in, supressing the desire to run.
I find one book at his table "The science of the kingdom's blood"
Found it. I open it all, looking for clues. Looking for something, I scan through the pages, looking for anything that'll explain anything.
"The blood's colors and their meanings" I find in the title, then I scan my eyes through the rest of the page.
"The people's blood must be tested with fairy magic, a transparent liquid that'll be made only once a year, in January 1st. When mixed with anyone's blood, the color that it turns into dictates wheter they're a Fairy, Bird, Eadonth's warriors and even Human. Here's the respective colors:
Green: Fairy
Blue: Bird
Red: Human"
I bring my hand to my mouth, keeping me from screaming in shock as I find my eyes scanning "Black: Eadonth's warrior" written below.
