chapter 17.

"Nothing too fancy its just a work party not a ball this time!" I giggle as Niki drapes another fabric across me. "Niki really its nothing I just need something simple."

"Y/n tell me to do simple one more time and you will walking in the room with a ball gown with real flowers." She puts her hands on her hips and tilts her head with a smile.

"Fine." I straighten up as Niki takes me measurements for the 100th time. She begged me to let her dress me for this work party so might as well let her, I don't really have any other options. It wasn't suppose to be anything very formal just a nice party for all the staff in the castle. Apparently it happens once a year and Phil takes it very seriously. I'm suppose to be wearing red to match the princess since I'm an important member of the staff. 

"Oh! I should drap it like this right?" Niki holds the red fabric across my waist to where there is a wide slit at my leg. 

"Sure."

"Y/n! I want more than a 'sure'!" She mocks me dropping the fabric from its position. 

"Fine. It's the most beautiful thing known to man I can't wait to grace the presence of everyone around me!" I dramatically fan myself with my hand. She rolls her eyes and hits my shoulder with a roll of red fabric.

"Okay whatever get out of her." She gathers up the fabric in her arms and pushes open her back room with her foot. 

"Bye!" I yell and I hear a muffled bye so I open the door with a jingle of the bell. 

The colder air bites my shoulders and I hug them. It's getting a lot colder then I thought it would. Usually I'm in warmer places all year. I wonder what my next- next....yes...next, I cant get too attached but I don't think I can- no...I have to.

Whatever. I walk up the hill to the castle and the guards open the gates. Im huffing and puffing and I really need to sit down. I never told anyone especially not Phil about the recent ender walking. 

"Oh Y/n!" Great! I suck in a big breath and turn around.

"Hi Phil!"

"I was just looking for you."

"Oh sorry, I was at Nikis getting a dress for the party." I smile trying not to seem like I want to fall down from being so out of breath.

"Oh of course don't worry. I need you too seal all the envelopes with wax and then give to Marcy once you are done. I know its a lot to ask but can you get them to her by tomorrow morning." He smiles and claps his hands. It is a lot to ask we have more than two hundred staff members but its fine I suppose. Maybe Ill force Tommy to help. 

"Yah its no problem don't even worry!" I turn to leave but I hear Phil sigh deeply making me stop and turn back.

"You aren't a good liar." what.

"Im sorry what did you say?" I smile tightly.

"I know you enderwalked again, you need rest, you need to stop pushing yourself please." He gives me a weak smile.

"Oh."

"Yah I don't mean to embarrass you but you've been more out of breath and wobbly as well as you being bright red right now." Well it feels pretty embassring right now! "Okay you can go now, thank you". I nod and walker faster than I ever have up the stairs into my office and slam the door shut.

I stare at the shut door with my hands on the doors. Im screwing this all up! I don't need to be attached to a teenager that I just want to protect I don't need a king worried about me I don't need to be enderwalking or whatever its called I don't need to be falling in love with-

"So you and Tech huh?"

I slowly turn and see Wilbur at my desk. I roll my eyes and drag my hands over my face. What is with this family and being in my business!

"I don't know what you are talking about", I say annoyed, "Now get off my chair."

"Okay okay," he puts his hands up in defence and gets out of the chair moving to stand near my bookcase. "I'm just saying someone wouldn't be that annoyed if they didn't know what someone was talking out."

"There's nothing going on between your brother and me." I bluntly say. 

"Im sure there isnt." He smirks and walks up to my desk leaning on it lowering his face to mine. "You better not hurt him. He's never been this close to someone and if you fuck this up for him, Ill make sure you are removed and banned from the castle for good." He smiles at the end and goes to the door gripping the handle, "You understand?" 

"Yes." I say in a shaky voice and he leaves. What the everloving fuck is wrong with this family. 

I sigh and sink into my chair and spin back and forth. I rub my eyes and stare at the massive tower of envelopes I need to seal. I sit up straight and see a note. I reach for it and unfold it cautiously. 

"Please stamp all of these with the red seal and a small baby breaths flower please

If you run out of either you can find them on the north wing at the end of the hall

And please once these are given to Marcy can you take Tommy to get a suit from Niki,

its already paid for he needs to pick one out

I sigh and toss it on the table and spin in the chair looking at the ceiling. This is going to be a long two days especially having to walk to town and back, I'm going to be so tired. 

Six hours later

I shove all the letter in a giant white bag and throw it over my shoulder. That took way longer than I thought it would sadly, I was hoping to actually sleep tonight. I look out the window at the moon high in the sky. Thankfully I didn't need to go the north wing. Not thankfully though I spilled wax all on my legs and it burned like shit and pulled my skin up. 

I open the door and the quiet halls met me in a cold breeze. I creep out of the door and shut it behind me slowly. Time to go put these in Marcys office on the other side of the castle.

I yawn and walk down the stairs to get to the other set of stairs on the other side of the castle. Why couldn't they build this castle in a practical way? 

After almost ten minutes of walking I reach her office door. I knock quietly knowing she is already in her room asleep. No response. I slowly open the door and drop the bag of letters in front of her small desk and leave a note saying to send them out in the morning. 

Time for another ten minutes walk back, lucky me! I would be very happy with this news if I didn't feel like I was going to fall asleep or faint every five seconds. Some people dream of getting to walk this castle at night alone basking in the moonlight of every window. And some people, me, getting the random thought of exploring this castle at night. No one was around, whats the worst that could happen? I faint, I enderwalk, nothing that would scar me for life, Im sure this side quest with me fun.
