Author's POV

As Manik and Nandini's shift drew to a close, they began their rounds, checking patients' vitals, administering sedation, and updating records for the incoming team. They met with Tarun, informing him that his wife would remain sedated throughout the night and likely regain consciousness by morning.

Meanwhile, Ishitha and Yash conferenced on how to persuade Arun's parents to agree to his treatment. Yash received a call from a police officer, stating that their investigation had concluded, but no eyewitnesses had come forward. The only witness was the woman driving the car, but Arun's lawyer had secured his release on bail. Yash was torn about the best course of action and called an emergency meeting with the ED doctors.

The meeting convened, with Manik and Nandini arriving last. As they took their seats beside Yash and Ishitha, someone quipped, "Here comes the famous Manik Malhotra." Manik ignored the teasing.

Yash initiated the discussion, outlining the situation and soliciting suggestions. Some proposed releasing Arun, citing personal responsibility, while others questioned the accuracy of the events. Rohit, a doctor with a history of animosity toward Manik, suggested reducing the woman's sedation to facilitate police questioning.

Manik countered, "I apologize, but she's not stable enough. She's on a ventilator, and her vitals are still critical." Rohit pressed on, but Manik stood firm, citing the risks of waking her prematurely.

Rohit's suggestion hung in the air, sparking a tense debate. "We can't risk her life for the sake of investigation," Manik countered firmly.

Rohit's expression turned confrontational. "You're being overly cautious, Manik. A brief reduction in sedation won't kill her."

Manik's eyes narrowed. "You're not considering the potential consequences. She's still critical, and her vitals are unstable."

Yash intervened, his voice calm and authoritative. "Manik's concerns are valid, Rohit. We can't compromise her care for the sake of expediency."

Rohit's face reddened. "You're always siding with Manik, Yash. It's not fair to the rest of us."

A senior doctor stepped in, her voice firm but gentle. "Rohit, that's not true. Yash is considering the patient's best interests, just like Manik. We can't let personal biases cloud our judgment."

The tension in the room dissipated slightly, but Rohit's resentment lingered.

The meeting concluded with a plan to revisit discussions with Arun's parents. As the group dispersed, Rohit departed hastily, followed by the others. Manik, Nandini, Ishitha, and Yash remained, discussing the fallout.

Manik expressed regret for any perceived favoritism, but Yash reassured him, attributing Rohit's behavior to jealousy. Ishitha encouraged them to put the matter behind them, acknowledging their exceptional skills and dedication.

As they prepared to leave, Manik requested permission to hand over the case to Ayush, which Yash approved. Yash offered to coordinate with the head nurse and duty doctors, ensuring the patient's sedation levels remained unchanged.

With the matter settled, Manik and Nandini departed, leaving Yash and Ishitha to finalize the arrangements.

Nandini and Manik waited for Ayush to arrive, eager to hand over the case and brief him on the situation's gravity. "Dr. Manik, do you think someone would dare alter her sedation levels after the meeting?" Nandini asked, her voice laced with concern.
