The sun was setting as Dhrisha trudged up the steps to her home, her shoulders sagging under the weight of her backpack and the day's events. As she turned the key in the lock, she could hear the familiar buzz of conversation from inside. Taking a deep breath, she pushed open the door.
The moment she stepped inside, a chorus of voices greeted her.
"Dhrisha! Why are you so late?" her mother's worried voice cut through the air.
"Didi! We were getting worried," Shubham, her younger brother, piped up from the couch where he was sprawled with his textbooks.
"Everything okay, sis?" Shivam, her older brother, added with a concerned frown, looking up from his laptop.
Dhrisha looked around the room, taking in the scene. Her entire family was gathered – her parents, Dadi sitting in her favorite armchair, Chacha and Chachi who must have come over for dinner, and her brothers Dhrish and Shivam. Their concerned faces made her feel a mix of guilt and frustration.
Sighing heavily, she dropped her bag by the door and slumped onto the nearest chair. "I'm sorry, everyone. I didn't mean to worry you. Professor Shriyansh kept me back after class. He's given me extra work as punishment for... well, for an incident."
"What incident?" her father asked, his brow furrowed as he folded his newspaper and set it aside.
Dhrisha took a deep breath and began recounting the events of the past few days. She told them about the collision in the corridor, the ruined papers, and Shriyansh's anger. As she spoke, she watched her family's expressions change – sympathy, disapproval, concern all flitted across their faces.
"Beta," her Chachi said gently, "you need to be more careful. College is not like school. Professors expect a certain level of maturity."
"I know, I know," Dhrisha replied, unable to keep the frustration out of her voice. "It was an accident. But now I'm stuck helping with this two-day village trip, and-"
Her words were cut off by the sudden ringing of her phone. Grateful for the interruption, she fished it out of her pocket. It was Shanaya.
"Hey, Dhri!" Shanaya's cheerful voice came through the speaker. "Are you ready for the village trip? It's going to be so interesting!"
Dhrisha's response was immediate and dejected. "No, I'm not interested. I'm not going."
"What? Chal na yaar, bohot kuch seekhne ko milega, trust me!" Shanaya pleaded.
(English Translation - Common Dude, Come we will learn alot, trust me.)
"Shanaya, you don't understand," Dhrisha said, her voice low as she was acutely aware of her family listening in. "This whole thing is a punishment for me. How can I enjoy it?"
"But that's exactly why you should come!" Shanaya argued, her voice rising with enthusiasm. "Show Professor Akdu that you can be responsible and learn something valuable. Plus, think about it – two days away from the city, experiencing village life, understanding rural economy... don't you want to be part of that?"
