Lilly and Caitlin first met on a bright summer morning, the kind of day where the sun shines so brilliantly that everything seems possible. Both were new additions to Team USA Basketball, brought together by their shared dream. Almost immediately, their competitive spirits clicked, forging a friendship that quickly became one of the tightest on the team. They pushed each other to new heights on the court, their bond evident in every play, every practice, every game.

Off the court, their connection was just as strong. They were practically inseparable, sharing everything from late-night talks about their dreams and fears to inside jokes that only they understood. Some of their teammates even joked that they seemed like more than just friends, given how close they were.

FLASHBACK

The gym echoed with the sounds of squeaking sneakers and the rhythmic bounce of basketballs. The intensity of the practice was palpable as the coach pushed the players to their limits. Caitlin, with her quick footwork and sharp instincts, was dominating the ball, weaving through defenders with ease. Lilly, known for her strategic mind and precision, was growing increasingly frustrated as she found herself repeatedly open but ignored.

"Come on, Caitlin, pass the fucking ball!" Lilly's voice cut through the noise, sharp and direct. She was in perfect position for a three-pointer, but Caitlin had driven to the hoop again.

Caitlin paused, her eyes widening in surprise. She was caught off guard by Lilly's outburst but also couldn't help but respect her boldness. During the water break, they both headed to the sidelines, panting and wiping sweat from their brows.

Lilly took a deep breath, trying to calm her frustration. "I'm Lilly, by the way. You better start passing the ball if we're going to make this work."

Caitlin, still catching her breath, looked up at Lilly, a bit sheepish. "I know who you are," she said, a hint of admiration in her voice. "You're one of the best guards in the country."

Lilly laughed, the tension easing from her face. "I know who you are too," she replied with a grin. "You're one of the top recruits."

From that moment on, their bond was sealed. They learned to trust each other's instincts, and their combined skills made them a formidable pair on the court. Caitlin's dynamic plays complemented Lilly's strategic shooting, and together, they became the heartbeat of Team USA.

Their friendship grew beyond the court as well. They shared meals, studied plays, and talked late into the night about their dreams and fears. They learned to anticipate each other's moves, not just in basketball, but in life.

END OF FLASHBACK

Lilly sat on her bed, her heart still racing from the phone call she had just finished with Coach Bluder. It was official—she was committing to Iowa. She knew Caitlin would be ecstatic; Caitlin had always been the one trying to convince Lilly to join her at Iowa. Without wasting another moment, Lilly grabbed her phone and dialed Caitlin's number.

The phone rang twice before Caitlin picked up. "Hey, pretty girl," Caitlin's voice came through, warm and teasing.

Lilly felt her cheeks flush immediately. Caitlin always had that effect on her. "Hey," she said, trying to keep her voice steady. "I have some news."

"Oh? Do tell," Caitlin replied, her tone playful and intrigued.

"I just got off the phone with Coach Bluder," Lilly began, her excitement bubbling over. "It's official—I'm coming to Iowa!"
