Kate was chatting with a few friends, but Caitlin urgently pulled her aside.
"Kate, I need to talk to you," Caitlin said, her voice a mix of excitement and nervousness.
Kate raised an eyebrow, noting Caitlin's anxious expression. "What's up?"
"I just overheard Lilly and Gabbie in the bathroom," Caitlin started, her words tumbling out.
"Lilly doesn't know what's going on between us either. She said she's going insane and doesn't know what to do."
Kate stared at Caitlin for a moment before shaking her head in exasperation. "No fucking shit, genius. We've all seen how you two are with each other. It's obvious you both have feelings. Talk to her, like now."
Caitlin blinked, taking in Kate's blunt advice. "You think I should just go up to her and... what, confess everything?"
Kate nodded emphatically. "Yes! You've been dancing around this for long enough. She clearly feels the same way. If you don't do it now, you're both just going to keep driving each other crazy."
Caitlin took a deep breath, nodding. "Okay. I'm gonna do it."
Kate smiled, giving Caitlin an encouraging nudge. "Go get her, Caitlin."
Lilly was standing by the kitchen island, laughing with Gabbie as they sipped their drinks. The party was in full swing around them, but they were lost in their own world, recounting funny stories from practice.
Caitlin, having gathered her courage, made her way over to them. She placed a hand on Lilly's arm, interrupting the laughter. "Hey, can I borrow you for a second?" she asked, her voice slightly tense.
Lilly glanced at Gabbie, who gave her an encouraging nod, then turned to Caitlin. "Sure, what's up?"
Caitlin gently took Lilly's hand, leading her through the crowded house and out onto the quieter back patio. The cool night air was a stark contrast to the warmth inside, and Lilly shivered slightly as they stepped outside.
Lilly looked at Caitlin, a mix of curiosity and concern in her eyes. "What's going on, Cait?"
Caitlin took a deep breath, her heart racing. "Lilly, I need to tell you something. I've been trying to find the right moment, and I guess this is it."
Lilly's confusion deepened, but she nodded, encouraging Caitlin to continue.
"I overheard you talking to Gabbie earlier," Caitlin admitted. "And I realized that we've both been feeling the same way but too scared to say anything. Lilly, I'm in love with you. I've been in love with you for a while now."
Lilly's eyes widened, her heart skipping a beat. "You... you're in love with me?"
Caitlin nodded, her eyes never leaving Lilly's. "Yes. I'm in love with you, Lilly. And I should have told you sooner, but I was scared of messing things up between us."
A slow smile spread across Lilly's face as the words sank in. "Caitlin, I'm in love with you too. I've been going crazy, thinking you might like someone else."
Caitlin's face lit up with relief and happiness. Without another word, she closed the distance between them, cupping Lilly's face in her hands and pressing her lips to Lilly's in a soft, tender kiss.
Lilly responded immediately, wrapping her arms around Caitlin's neck and pulling her closer. The kiss was filled with all the emotions they had been holding back for so long. When they finally pulled apart, both of them were breathless, their foreheads resting against each other's.
Lilly laughed softly, a sound filled with pure happiness. "I'm so glad you dragged me out here."
Caitlin chuckled, her own eyes shining with tears of joy. "Me too. Now, let's go back inside before Gabbie and Kate come looking for us and you die of hyperthermia"
Lilly nodded, but not before stealing another quick kiss. Hand in hand, they made their way back into the party, both of them feeling lighter and happier than they had in a long time.
