"Our maladies were such we could not cure them
And so a touch that was my birthright became foreign"
Lily Lawton's POV:
"Hey, Lils, why do you keep checking your phone? Are you waiting for a call, or are you bored of me?" Gabi asked.
"What? Of course not! Are you kidding? How could I be ever bored of you? There's just this one boy who promised to call me but seems to be ghosting me," I said with a sigh.
"What? How could a boy ghost you? It's usually the other way around," Gabi said.
"I know, but I have a feeling that this time it's different," I confessed.
"Different? Lily, are you in love?" Gabi asked in amazement.
"No! Maybe? Ugh, I don't know!" I replied.
"Wow, he really perplexed you! Who is this lucky boy?" she asked, but I wasn't ready to tell her.
"No one," I said.
"No one? Lily, why are you hiding his identity? Is it Scott again?" she asked.
"Oh, god forbid, no!" I said.
"Okay then, but promise to tell me when you feel comfortable sharing," she said.
"Of course. For now, it's so ambiguous," I said.
Later that evening, I was back in my apartment, trying to relax but still thinking about Lando. I kept glancing at my phone, hoping he'd call.
Lando's POV:
"Come on, mate. Just call her or at least text her something. You've been thinking about it for two days now," Max said to me as we were sitting in my living room.
"What am I going to text her? Or if I call her, it's worse... What am I going to say to her?" I asked.
"Oh, mate, are you kidding me? You already spent a night just talking to her till 5 a.m. I'm sure you two can find something to talk about."
"You don't understand, mate. She's the most beautiful girl I've ever seen, and talking with her really healed my soul that night."
"Then tell her that. Don't tell me."
"How? She's perfect. What does she have to do with me?"
"Wasn't she the one who said 'let's do this again sometime soon'? Am I wrong?"
"No, but..."
"But what? See. There is nothing that can go wrong with just making a simple phone call. So, stop coming up with stupid excuses and just call her."
"Fine," I said and called her.
It was ringing, and I could feel my heartbeat in my throat.
Lily's POV:
My phone started ringing, and I saw Lando's name on the screen. My heart skipped a beat. I quickly picked up the call, trying to keep my voice steady. "Hello?"
"Hey, Lily. It's Lando," he said, sounding a bit nervous.
"Hey, Lando. I was starting to think you forgot about me," I teased lightly.
"Forget about you? No chance. I've been thinking about you constantly," he confessed, his voice softening.
"Really?" I asked, feeling a warmth spread through me.
