There was a time I couldn't see you,
a hazy blur covered your face.
A turmoilous blur, caused by a stir,
a stir in the pool and a knot in your lace.
I doubted too, when I tried to untangle,
but I knew there was a bright sparkle.
A sparkle behind the facade they stirred,
and in the eye of confusion you'd startle.
I was the one to recognize my kin,
I grabbed the spoon and stilled the water. Then out you came for everyone to see,
then slowly others saw I'm your daughter
Only then we took each other's hands,
and traced each other back to the core.
You first knew me as a late sprout,
a sprout that never grew like another.
You faced the moment and that's fine,
for you to see my core I wouldn't bother.
For you never knew you added to poison,
in oblivion your trunk needn't crack. Our branches intertwined, and I rejoiced,
felt like I belonged, like I was your rack.
Life unfolds in beautiful canopies,
and so mine should've blossomed long.
I never noticed you waited to see that,
I just carried on to willow in song.
Struggling to keep my frail trunk up,
while you questioned your expectations.
My green little trunk is surviving the rain,
which never passed your considerations. Why isn't it enough that I haven't withered?
I struggle to make any leaves at all,
since you're unhappy by the canopy I haven't delivered.
I'll never grow out to resemble you,
you let rain lift you up, played science by sun.
I could never explain to you what's my science,
but photosynthesis is not my cun.
I cannot grow another branch for you,
because this poison is in my xylem.
I'll always feel I got fruit to grow in your name,
though it was me who held the mirror in your asylum.
