After El left i felt an insane pain in my chest. I have to keep reminding myself I'm not the only person who likes Mike. He's just so gorgeous and kind and he'd never like somebody like me.

He has gotten so popular lately and at least half of the people in his class have asked him out. He's obviously said no every time because he's with El but, you know, it just feels weird knowing that he's not just my best friend who i can talk to anymore, he's everyone's friend now and he doesn't even sit with me but with the popular boys. Sometimes even with the girls.

El fell in love with him instantly and Mike aswell. They've been together for so long... 

I opened my journal and started writing. My therapist told me to write whatever I think is good and will remind me of how lucky I am, and I honestly think it's a good idea.

"At least he likes me as a friend." That was true, I was so lucky to have him as a friend. He has so many other friends now but it's just different between us because we've been friends since forever. I know everything about him and he knows everything about me. We're both so crazy... "crazy together", he once said, but I doubt he remembers.

El came home at 2am. I noticed she was trying to be as silent as possible but I could clearly hear her footsteps: she chose her loudest - but prettiest - shoes that day. 

I was still awake and couldn't sleep, so I stood up and went to her room. I found her silently crying sitting on her bed. When she saw me she immediately turned around as if she could make me unsee the fact that she was crying but it was too late.

"El, my god... what happened?"

"Go away" she said firmly, but I wasn't going to let it go. I sat next to her before saying anything else.

"I'm not leaving until you tell me what's wrong"

"Mike"

"Mike's wrong?"

"He broke up with me"

Even though I still liked him I couldn't help but feel terrible about that. I love and care about El more than anybody else and that was just heartbreaking for both of us.

"Oh. I'm so sorry"

"It's not your fault"

"Yeah but I still care about you"

"He said- he said he liked someone else"

I froze.

"Yeah, he told me he liked this other girl and oh my god, i can't believe this."

Girl. Right, i should've known.

"Obviously he likes another girl" she continued "I knew this would happen... I've seen so many girls flirt with him and he didn't even do anything to stop it, it was always me who went there and told them he already had a girlfriend. Not that they cared anyway. He's just gotten so popular lately, it's like I don't even know him anymore."

There was a short silence before I spoke.

"He's such an asshole"

"He is, he really is"

I hugged her and stayed like that for a couple minutes until she fell asleep.
