Soulmates au

You bear each others color upon making physical/skin to skin contact.

Soulmates here are meant to be viewed as platonic; however for this batch of character I did include a snippet that could be read with romantic intent :))

It was a strange phenomenon, one that the logic ridiculed modicum of science could never begin to explain. Centuries would pass and still the only reasoning behind why people would grow up to bare their skin in the likeness of one of Vincent Van Gogh's paint palettes, was that the mark was a testament of love. The idea of this pure love being either romantic or platonic held no precedence in the forming of the colorful mark, the only guarantee was that based on the touch if you bore a mark afterwards, that person was a soulmate. Someone who would love and cherish you tenfold.

There are two marks in particular that you instantly begin a frantic search for the moment your eyes pop open in an unfamiliar bed, and in an even more foreign house. Left palm facing up you bring it impossibly up close in order to inspect the skin, only for your heart to rattle away painfully within your chest.

Anna's ruby eyes flicker across the expanse of the football field, and you can only look at her in confusion. Anna was never one to go to these "school spirit events" claiming why would she waste her time watching boys dawned in spandex shorts roughhouse in grass-that-isn't-even-grass grass (It's turf you would interject politely only for her to squint at you and stick her tongue out) Something something the sexual tension between the two teams being unappealing to her.

However, here lately, she has had a damn near perfect attendance for all of the football games your highschool team played in, only missing a couple away ones, because even though she didn't like to admit it she was rather codependent on you. And while you were neutral in your opinion of the sport, content to allow Anna drag you to the various games, you did end up putting your foot down when it came to the games happening outside of home turf.

It's clear as day that she isn't even watching the team in of itself, so you follow her distracted gaze, all the way to the cheerleaders waving around pom-poms reminiscent of your school's colors. Oh? You blinked as they echoed at with a peppy cheer, before glancing back at Anna and focusing on her lips. Here recently there has been a new development, and this one in particular took the shape of a swath of bright bellflower purple painting her lips. The first time you pointed it out she had been a blushing and fumbling mess, but had stayed pretty secretive over the matter.

Arching a brow up in intrigue you slide back over to focus on the cheerleaders, eyes scrunching as you try to look at the more miniscule of details. The stadium lights were much too bright–the distance from where you sat wasn't helpful in your investigative staring either. Slumping you decided to push off sleuthing on your own, morosefully letting your gaze trek back to the leather football currently flying through the air. Whoever the lucky girl was, you're sure Anna would let it slip eventually.

And let it slip she does. Not even ten minutes after the game's conclusion (a rather bitter loss for the enemy school) Anna disperses into the crowd, eyes a distracted haze as she half-heartedly mutters for you to stay put. Snorting at the rather pet-like command you do end up deciding to stay put, afterall something in the back of your mind whispers that something worthwhile is about to occur.
