Chapter 10
Jade
"I don't mind training him. It's better for him to know how to fight, especially since he's a young alpha himself." Sawyer says as he pats him gently on the shoulder. "Plus, he'll have some independence and will be able to defend himself in a fight... Not that he's ever going to be in a fight."
"But I was-am training him! I can do his training by myself." I argue.
Sawyer's hands raise in the air in an I'm-not-guilty pose. "Hey, Dallas came to me. I never went to him. He asked me and I said yes. Talk to Dallas about this." He nudges Dallas toward me softly before going back into his office and shutting the door.
My gaze shoots toward his, "You know that I'm training you and I can just as well as Sawyer. Why would you ask him to train you instead of me?"
His eyes met mine, unwavering. "You are taking care of four children who are not even biologically yours. You had to give up your life to take care of the four of us and I'm so grateful. When I asked Sawyer to train me, it wasn't because I didn't think you'd do a good job, it was because I wanted to do something for you. Instead of wearing you out by training me, you can do something with the twins or Aaron. Or maybe do something for yourself. I thought that you would be happy with me." His voice cracks a little as he says happy.
This whole time I've been acting selfishly, yelling at him when he was only thinking about me. Feeling ashamed of my actions, all I could do was hug him. Pulling Dallas to me, squishing his face in my shoulder-which earned complaints from him-and whisper sorry after sorry into his ear.
We spend the next couple hours discussing Dallas' training schedule with Sawyer. When Sawyer's brother comes home, Sawyer will become a full time trainer, well until we decide to leave. By the time Sawyer's brother arrives, Dallas should be ready to join the younger group of shifters. He'll still be the youngest because the group is for ten to twelve year olds and he is only seven. I'm sure Dallas will be fine since he is of alpha blood and has the capability to do things beyond his normal age group.
"Hey, Dallas, can you go get you siblings and tell them it's time for supper?" I ask, hoping for some alone time with Sawyer.
Dallas nods his head yes and runs out the door, shouting "Bye!"
"Was there something you wanted to talk to me about?" Sawyer asks me as he begins cleaning up his desk, organizing papers into piles and placing pens in a container.
I watch as Sawyer fluently move around the room, a graceful swan. He would be infuriated if he knew I was silently comparing him to a swan.
'He would definitely be mad,' Nala giggles in my mind before leaving again. An inside joke that we now share.
Sawyer stops in front of me, staring quizzically at my grin. "Is something funny?"
"No, nothing at all." I say quite unconvincingly, hiding my smile. "I do have some things to ask you about though."
He sits down next to me, holding my hands in his. Handholding is as intimate as we have gotten. "Like what?"
"When is your brother coming home?"
"In about three weeks to a month."
"Why was he given the alpha title? Why are you filling in for him? Does this happen a lot?"
Sawyer laughs softly, "Slow down Jade. He was given the alpha title because he is older. I'm filling in for him because he is out searching for his mate in other packs and it would be better to have someone with alpha blood take over the pack for a longer period of time instead of the beta. No this does not happen a lot. I'm only filling in now because as I said earlier, it's better to have a leader with alpha blood when the real alpha is gone for a while. He has been gone for a month so far and it's not proper to leave a beta with the duties of an alpha for more than two weeks. Since I was visiting, he asked me to take over the pack until he returns."
Surprisingly, that makes sense. "Why don't you stay with the pack? Shouldn't you be beta instead of roaming around the world? Are you considered a rogue when you're not here?"
He sighs, caressing the back of my hands. "Let's just say it's a long story and leave it there. And no, I'm always apart of this pack, just absent sometimes. When I am here, I'm just a normal pack member unless its a rare time like now."
I open my mouth to question him more but he shakes his head.
"Enough questions for today. I'm hungry and I'm sure you are too. Lets go get some supper." He stand up and holds his hands out for me to take.
My hands grab his and he pulls me to my feet. We smile at each other before making our way down the stairs for supper.
Authors Note:
Somewhat of a longer chapter! I've been writing way too many short chapters and although this one isn't really long, it's longer than the ones I've been writing recently! Progress xDCompleted on July 7, 2015.

It's so weird writing authors notes (4) months before I publish these chapters :P
Hope you enjoyed!
