Scene 4

Characters: Grace, Michael, Robert

(The battlefield, somewhere in Egypt. Morning. Grace steps onto the sand, looking at all the fallen soldiers around her. She takes off her hood)

GRACE

This is all my fault... If only I had stopped the king when I should have...

(She unsheathes her sword, raising it and holding it with both hands)

This isn't what I have raised my sword for. This is only a bloodbath!

(Michael appears, making small steps towards her. He looks at all the soldiers at his feet, dead)

MICHAEL

Do you see it now, Grace? This is what humans have done to each other for thousands of years. Everything you have loved is lost. Now I dare to ask you once more... Will you forsake this world that betrayed you?

(He offers her his hand, like an invitation. She looks at him with teary eyes, placing the sword at her feet, before standing once more and looking at him with hateful eyes)

GRACE

Even if the world betrayed me, I alone shall not turn my back against it. As long as he exists in this world, I shall never turn my back to it!

(Michael sighs, taking back his hand)

MICHAEL

You never learn, daughter of light. What could you alone do against me? Your brother is prisoner of war. Your father died on this very same field. The king you serve has done foolish moves, even if you advised him not to. And the man you love isn't by your side when you need him the most. Tell me, beautiful Grace, why do you deny me? Why did you put down your sword?

(Robert comes running to them, covered in blood. In his hands, his sword rests, tainted by the crimson blood)

ROBERT

I am her sword. Always been and always will. For as long as I am here, you shall ever have her!

(Robert charges at Michael. Michael unsheathes his sword and raises it, the two weapons clashing against each other. Grace falls amongst the corpses. She looks at the two men about to kill each other with despair in her eyes. Robert, receiving a slash in his arm, drops his sword)

MICHAEL

That was the extend of your powers after all...

(He raises his sword, ready to deal the finishing blow, but Grace throws Robert her sword. He catches it and blocks the attack)

MICHAEL

As usual, you can do nothing without her.

ROBERT

I couldn't wish for something else.

(They continued their fight. She looked at them, seeing the hate in their souls grow stronger with each second)

GRACE

It is all my fault... Even now, they are fighting because of me... Wherever I go, it's the same. Then... For what reason have I come here, just to shed more blood?

(Determinated, she stood up and ran amongst the corpses to them. She has decided to end it once and for all. Michael charges forward, as does Robert. Grace jumps in the way of their swords, receiving both hits)
