The lack of response from Silvia bothered Caspian more than he'd like to admit.
He could tell something was the matter, yet didn't have enough courage to ask her about it.
The car drive to his university was spent in complete silence, except the sound of his breaths. It almost felt like the woman didn't even breathe.
How could someone be so subtle about their way of life? It was baffling to the boy.
Stopping the car in front of the gates, Silvia turned to him with her sugary sweet smile—which sure was unsettling and too sweet to be genuine.
"Good bye, Caspian."
Caspian's heart lurched when she said that, something in him itched at the thought of never seeing Silvia again. Her good bye sounded too final for him to like.
"We- I-I'll see you again, right?" He had his breath hold in his throat, hoping and praying for a yes as he stared in the dark pool of her eyes.
"Sure." Silvia prompted, clearing her throat afterwards. "Not sure when though."
Nodding understandingly, Caspian swallowed, not wanting to part just yet.
"Uhm- Silvia. I want to ask you something."
Silvia's hand on the steering wheel tightened as she anticipated his next words, she could tell where this was going and she contemplated her own response.
"Did yo- did you not like it? Whatever happened between us last night?"
The hurt was very much evident in his tone and it made the woman's heart ache, because it'd be a big, fat lie if she said yes.
It was the best night, experience, she ever had, than with any of her past flings. But she couldn't say any of this to him, neither how she was just pushing him away to protect him—to protect herself from letting walls break and fall. Fall in love.
"It's not that, little one."
A weird shiver ran down the boy's spine at the indication and he felt his cheeks heating up.
"Then what is it?" He braved up.
Sighing deeply, Silvia drove the car to a corner so they were not in the middle of the road and stopped the engine, turning to the fidgety boy.
She gently took his hands in hers and stared deeply in his grey eyes.
"Caspian, I loved every second of last night. I want nothing more than to see you again, and again."
"But?" He asked tentatively, heart racing from both their hands touching and fearing her rejection. He didn't think he could bear her rejection.
"But I'm not one for settlement, Dove. I've always flew around, my heart's reserved. You're such a sweet and pure soul, I could tell how you give your everything in something, or someone. With my life-style, I might end up hurting you. And I'd hate that."
Caspian's throat caught up with a lump as he swallowed it back, his heart breaking at her words.
"B-but you did like it, and me. Right? Do you like me, Silvia?"
She didn't have words for him, she let go of his hands and turned to the front.
"You should go now. You'll be late for class."
Taking a shuddering breath, Caspian turned to open the door but looked at her over his shoulder one more time.
"I'll be waiting for your call, Silvia. I know we both have felt it, whatever this is between us. I can't be the only one. And I'd wait for you to finally realize it."
