I blinked my eyes open a few times and looked around. I was still in my basement, under the fort Morgan made last night. I looked over and saw a big empty spot next to me, my heart sunk in my chest. He must've gone home. I checked the time on my phone, twelve thirty in the afternoon showed up on my screen.
Wow, I guess I was exhausted. I have never slept in this late before.
Sunspot sauntered over to me. I patted the spot next me and he quickly came over and curled up into my side. I smiled softly and scratched behind his ears. He made a steady and gentle purring sound.
"Good morning to you too, Sunny."
He licked my fingers a few times with his sandpaper like tongue. I giggled and tapped his nose lightly before wrapping an arm around his little body and kissing his head a few times. That's when I heard the basement door open quietly. Soft footsteps made their way down the basement stairs. I looked over at the end of the fort and saw Morgan's face come into view.
It felt like my deflated heart was filled with the most fresh intake of fall Iowa air. I cracked a big smile and he mirrored my expression.
"Good morning sunshine." He said softly.
"Good morning."
I guess Sunspot could tell I wanted to be wrapped up in this boys arms because he got up and left the fort as Morgan crawled in and laid next to me.
"I thought you went home without saying goodbye. You weren't here when I woke up."
"I'm sorry sunshine. I went to go make you food for when you did wake up." His fingers pushed away the hair that was in my face. I reached up and grabbed his hand, interlacing his fingers with mine.
"What did you make?"
"Your favorite, cinnamon rolls." He gave me a smile that was a half smirk.
How on earth does he know about all my favorite things?
"I don't think you know how happy that makes me. I'm so happy I could kiss you!"
"Don't hold back Daze." He chuckled.
I went to move closer to him. His arm snaked around my lower back and he pulled me into his chest, his gaze never leaving mine. I placed both of my hands on the sides of his face and kissed him. I felt him smile against my mouth as he kissed me back. His hands, gosh those hands, splayed across my back. His fingers gently dug into my clothes.
One of my hands got tangled in the back of his hair, while the other rested on his chest over his heart. I could feel his body begin to relax, but his grip never loosened on me. He held me like at any moment, someone could come and rip me away from him.
After a few moments of being tangled in each others arms, he pulled back and looked into my eyes with such a tender expression. I had to hold back the tears I could feel building behind my eyes.
