— Dannis Martell —
Stepping out of the cave, I glanced back one last time. Cackler Prime was a dangerous demon, a high B-rank bordering A-rank monster by itself. The fact that it was here meant this mission was at least A-rank worthy, something I plan to tell Master Makarov when I get back to the guild.
Cackler Prime is a rare monster to come by. The last time one was seen was 7 years ago, when Draculos Hyberion earned his Wizard Saint title by hunting down an archdevil and purging it. The Cackler Prime was amongst the Archdevil's minions.
The Archdevil was labeled as a Catastrophe Level Threat in Ishgar's Hazard Registry, which is a threat index that the Magic Council created to rank beings that are a massive danger to the populace.
The most famous one of course being Zeref the Black Wizard and Acnologia the Dragon King, who are both rated as an Apocalyptic Level Threat. Existences that could threaten the entire world by themselves.
The researchers at the Wizard Council had dubbed the Cackler Prime a rare evolution for the regular Cacklers. An evolution that happens to 1 in a 100 in their species. But I guess I found the actual reason for their transformation. Who knew glowshrooms were a special upgrade food for the little critters?
The Magic Council does have a reward system in place if a mage brings them new information about beasts or monsters. Since Cackler Primes are a pretty big threat for the average mage, sharing this new discovery of mine would be a good idea.
Smiling slightly from the bigger paycheck I'm getting, I tilt my head at something I've been contemplating for a while. I'm 15 years old now, not an adult yet by any means, but I'm getting older. Maybe it's time to get my own place.
Wakaba's is nice, and the old man certainly makes coming home from day to day a bit better. But I do wonder what it would feel like to have a home all to myself.
I certainly have the money for it, the recent months of missions and having spent very little of it had given me a decent amount saved. Not to mention the stipend I'll be given from the Cackler Prime information.
Whatever the case, that's an issue for a future me. After all, what I do know is that it's time for me to get back to the guild. I'm starting to run out of missions after that last batch, time to get back and hoard the best quests for myself before disappearing for another long period of time.
Ah, the joys of a lone mage.
How bittersweet.

[Six days later]
Arriving at Magnolia, I expand my senses to our usual hangout spots. Sighing in relief as I don't sense Laxus or the rest of the Thunder God Tribe anywhere.
They must be on a mission, I realize.
The first thing I did when I got to the guild was to tell Makarov about my recent discoveries. He congratulated me on a job well done and made sure to tell the Magic Council the information on my behalf. The rewards would be sent to my account under his supervision. The master kept dropping hints all the while for me and Laxus to talk to one another, which I pointedly ignored. The old man just sighed at our stubbornness before waving me away.
