The golden light of the chandeliers danced across the marble flooring in the ballroom of Aldridge-Heaton, and the sparkling gowns of the girls swept the shiny floors. The soft whispers of people and the rattling of fine china filled the ballroom while the autumn leaves rustled in the cold, October breeze outside. The excitement of the annual autumn formal beamed on the faces of the students and the school staff. Kedar sat at the banquet table with his friends, enjoying the meal.
'Ooh, Kiara is a little slutty today. Don't you think?' Zara sneered at the low neckline of the girl across her table. Zara wore her hair down, and she was dressed in a lavender satin dress with ruffles on the sleeves, while Ehan wore a royal blue tuxedo, Akshat a brown suit, and Kedar an off-white one.
Akshat tilted his head to get a good look at Kiara while everyone else ignored Zara's remark. 'It's chicks like this who keep me going.' An obscene smirk played on his lips.
'Stop. It's kinda creepy.' Mahi said, arching her eyebrows in disgust. The crystal embellishments on her green dress glistened in the chandelier lights.
'What? Every guy's like that.' Akshat chuckled in his defense, shrugging his shoulders. 'Don't you two?' Akshat asked both Ehan and Kedar.
'Speak for yourself. I'm not sexually frustrated like you.' Kedar smirked as he swirled a glass of mocktail.
His words cut Akshat's ego with the sharpness of a knife, making his face grow hot from the sudden retort.
'Oooh. Burn!' Zara mouthed as the whole table went silent.
'And I guess you're not?' Akshat asked Kedar scornfully.
'Huh?' Kedar asked in confusion.
'I'm sexually frustrated, and you're not? What makes you so sexually satisfied?' Akshat Air quoted. 'Come on, who are you sleeping with?' Akshat continued his infuriating question.
The blood in Kedar's veins began to seethe with anger.
'Anyone from the school?' Akshat continued the taunting.
A turbulent storm started to grow inside Ehan. He examined Kedar's demeanor closely, watching his reaction to Akshat's questions. Kedar visiting Himani's place, Akshat's questions. He tried to connect the dots, and the conclusions made him enraged, and he tried hard not to show it on his face.
'Akshat, stop.' Mahi said quietly to put an end to the awkward situation.
'What? I'm just asking some questions.' Akshat acted surprised.
'I'll leave this table if you won't shut up, Akshat.' Mahi almost snapped.
'Yes, don't spoil this night.' Zara said Akshat.
'Ugh, fine.' Akshat said as he made a guttural sound while rolling his eyes.
'Oh, here comes the paragon of virtue!' Zara exclaimed as she spotted someone at the entrance.
