part two of 16
Himani and Lily stood in front of the gigantic house, in the middle of the woods, near the lake, from where the ear-piercing noise erupted. The day started to darken behind the coniferous trees, and the house stood as the only light source.
'How do I look?' Lily asked Himani.
She took a glance at Lily, who was dressed as Juliet from Romeo + Juliet in a white dress and a pair of wings. 'Extraordinary.' She said, smiling.
Himani was dressed the opposite-as a witch in a black gothic-styled dress with black eyeshadow.
There were some people from school and some people from outside, chatting and drinking as they walked through the entrance. Halloween decorations like bats, skeletons, and illuminated Jack-o-lanterns hung from the ceiling. Inside, the house was lit with strobe lights, and it was almost impossible to recognise faces in the frequently changing, vibrant lights. The house was filled with drunk people dancing, chatting, quarrelling, and making out. She stood at the entrance as the social anxiety slowly upsurged through her nerves. She spotted Kedar at the far end of the room, talking to someone else. She could sense her heart race as his gaze shifted to her, or was it just the loud music? He looked a little too fine in the black shirt with a silver chain around his neck.
'You both look great.' He said as he walked up to them.
'Thanks.' Lily said and turned her head towards Himani. 'You coming to dance?'
'No, you should go.' She replied, shrugging her shoulders. 'Wait.' She grabbed Lily's hand as she was about to leave. 'Don't even go near the alcoholic drinks. Or else we'd have to sleep here tonight.' Himani warned her, as Lily was staying in the school dorm room with her for the weekend, and there was no way that they would be allowed inside the dorm after being drunk.
'I won't.' She said as she walked away.
'What do you want to drink?' Kedar, who was standing next to her, asked.
'Something carbonated.' She said as they both threaded carefully through the crowd.
'Here,' he said as he came out of the kitchen with two cans of coke in his hand.
'Who are you dressed up as?' She asked as she popped the can and took a sip.
'The sexy vampire.' He grinned, showing the fangs, which made her almost spit the coke out.
'What? Am I not sexy enough?' He asked with a frown on his face as she tried to suppress her laughter.
'I wouldn't agree even if I had bad eyesight.'
