Himani had believed Ehan, and his honey-dipped words. She felt stupid to the core for liking him and keeping everything a secret, even from her best friend. It was obvious that Mahi Taneja was into him, and he would flirt with Mahi whenever he got the chance. She was dull-witted enough to ignore the signs and fall into the bottomless pit he dug. But Himani was his escape from reality, and he might have gotten a strange thrill out of adventures like that.'The school topper is actually dumb, when it comes to boys!' She mocked herself.
A pang of crisp air hit her as she stepped out of the library building. The heavy rains had stopped for good on Sunday, but the sky was still hoary and nondescript. Her tears felt like ice against her skin. No matter how many times she wiped them away, it kept coming like a broken faucet, jetting water nonstop. She kept her head down, not meeting anyone's eyes as she walked through the pavement. She looked up only when she felt someone's presence in front of her.
Kedar Nath Panwar frowned in bafflement upon seeing her. She did not want to see anybody in her messy state, especially anyone from Ehan's friend circle.
'Well, well, well.' He said with a slight smirk on his lips. 'Look who it is.'
She tried to walk past him as quickly as she could. There was no reason to stand there and listen to him speak.
But of course, Kedar would not let her leave her that easily. He grabbed her wrist, swiftly pulling her back and making her face him. 'I said I needed to talk to you. But you seem like the busiest person on earth.' His arm on her wrist was cold, yet it felt like burning her skin.
Her gaze was fixated on him. 'Leave my hand.' Her voice was filled with heat. He left her hand at that instance.
'Why am I rejected from the club?' He asked.
'How do I know?'
'Aren't you the captain?' He scoffed.
That's when he saw her watery eyes. He could sense that something was wrong.
'Look, I just took your interview. The rest is in the club coordinator's hands. If you want to ask anything, ask her. And leave me alone.'
Then the bell rang, and she was gone.
After school, Kedar was in Claudia Paterson's office, who teaches global politics and is also the coordinator of the debate club. She was young, with evenly tanned skin and curly hair. She was wearing a crimson-red peacoat and black pants.
'Mr. Panwar.' She said as she spotted him at the doorstep. She was sitting across the table, opposite the principal Bishop. 'Come in.' She said, and gestured for him to sit.
He settled on the chair beside Mr. Bishop.
'We were talking about you.' Mr. Bishop said with a dry smile.
'Me?' Kedar asked.
'Yes, but let's talk about it later.' Owen replied.
'What brings you to my office, Kedar?' Mrs. Paterson asked.
