Sam sat in the back of the car in his usual spot, looking out of the window as Diane spoke to him and Nick who was too preoccupied with his phone to listen about her mother
"So I told grandma you can't have a microwave on your nightstand.."
"My uncle had a microwave on his nightstand, fucked it every night" Benji smiled
"Wouldn't the radiation give him cancer or something?" Sam tore his eyes away from the window to look at Benji next to him
"Yeah, but you try telling him that. He called it his warm hummer"
Sam grimaced
"So, we're thinking why even tell grandma about the cancer when she doesn't even know where she is.. right?"
Sam suddenly snapped back into the conversation, feeling bad that he wasn't listening
"Wow.. that's really exciting.." Nick got out of the car without looking up from his phone
"Bye Nicky, have a great day with your phone, so glad I opened up to you about my dying mother.. little fuck" Diane waved sarcastically
"I'm sorry to hear about your mum, I hope she's not in any pain" Sam sat forward, grabbing his bag
"She's on pain meds so she doesn't feel mutch, thank you Sammy, have a lovely day" Diane smiled
"You too" he smiled, getting out of the car. Sam walked into the hallway, trying to spot his friends, he spots Missy sat on the floor against the wall writing in a expensive looking notebook.
"Hunched over, book almost closed so no one can read, completely engrossed.. we know what what means don't we Sammy" Benji smirked
Sam smiled walking over "that's some fan fiction writing stance"
"I wonder what she's writing about? She seems like a Dr who fan.. or maybe old shows from the 60s"
"Dr who is an old show from the 60s" Sam walked closer and smiled, not wanting to interrupt her he sat down next to her, not reading the book, if she wanted to show him she would. Sam smiled, watching the people walk through the hall. People watching was one of his favourite things to do, people do some strange things when they think no one's watching them.
Before long the rest of the group showed up, Jessie and Andrew watched Missy write while Nick stared at his phone
"Missy, what are you doing all scribbling away there?" Jessi asked
Missy stood up and closed the book in a startle "what? Nothing, I'm actually just. It's something for my self, private."
Benji nudged Sam "bet it was a lemon, if she's reacting like that" this made Sam shrug
"Lady's and gentle jerks, who's gonna pick a card? Well? How about it Nick?"
"I don't care" Nick said without looking up from his phone, Sam stood up
Andrew wandered over "Ah Nicks still preoccupied with his phone, but he's always got time for a bests buds fist bump" he raised his fist and is immediately left hanging "no? Fist? C'mon please?... Ah alright we'll raincheck that fist bump, another day we will do it"
"Fine fine fine! Nevermind I'll pick the card" he takes a card out of the hand, revealing a seven of diamonds "annnd boom! Disappeared!" He said making the card disappear
Sam looked over, genuinely a little shocked, Jay didn't have any sleeves so the card had actually vanished!
"Ooookay can we please go to class now?" Jessi asked dismissively, Sam raised his eyebrow, sure Jays magic could be annoying at times, but this was actually kinda impressive
"No!!" Jay yelled shrilly "I haven't got to the prestige! Now if we just look in Missy's old timey notebook here" he took the book from Missy and opened it, showing the card "Holy shit I did it!"
Sam was left in slack jawed amazement "how the fuck??"
"I wonder what else he can do with those fingers" Benji smirked, witch was met with a firm side eye from Sam
"Gaia dangit Jay! That's my private property!" Missy ripped the book out of his grasp, tarring a page as she did so, but the didn't seem to notice in her anger as she stormed off
"Missy calm down it's just a stupid notebook! Stop overreacting or I'll fucking kill you!!!" Jay shouted holding the ripped page
"Yikes-" Sam picked up his bag "maybe take your own advice Jay" he muttered before walking to class.
