To Texas to New York

____________________________

My name is Chris Salinas. I'm thirteen and lived in Corpus Christi, Texas my whole life.

That was until I moved to New York.

I moved because my stepdad got a better paying job. He had the option to decline the promotion and stay in Texas.

But both my parents decided that it was best to take the money that came with the promotion. Even if it meant we had to move.

I basically accepted my fate since I didn't have much of a reason to fight. I mean, what was I going to do? Throw a tantrum?

Yeah, no. I wasn't going to do that.

So, my stepdad is not my bio-dad.

How do I know this? Well, for starters, he's 5'5, has brown eyes and black hair.

And I met him when I was nine.

So, yes, he's my stepdad. But at least he was at my bedside with my mom when I was sick in the hospital when I was eleven.

My mom is real mom. Not that it matters, she'll always be my mom no matter what that girl said in the fourth grade.

Anyways, I was actually no stranger to moving.

My mom was in the army. She was a major.

Despite spending the first couple of years of my life deploying across the country and the world, she made sure not to take me with her.

When she was gone, I stayed with my grandparents in Texas. Lucky for me, they weren't super long.

Shortly after I turned six, she was able to stop deploying and we moved away from my grandparents.

(Which was only down the street).

We moved to several apartments and several houses, but we managed to stay in the same area.

When we found our rightful house, she soon meant my stepdad on base.

They started talking and did some other mushy, squishy stuff that I won't get into to, before finally tying the knot.

I liked him enough, he was a cool guy. In case it isn't obvious, I never met my bio-dad. Never ever, ever, ever.

Left before I was born. Leaving to go to 7-Eleven to get some melatonin and never coming back, that hold deal.

But I do have a faint idea on what he looks like. No, not from pictures, videos or anything like that.

How do I have this idea of what he looks like?

It's because of my appearance.

My mom has super curly, dark brown hair that is so dark it looks black. Her eyes were a soft chocolate brown that reminded me of a fondue fountain.

My maternal side of the family is also full of dark hair and eyes. Unlike me, the oddball in all photos.

I have wavy blond hair and blue eyes.
