I made my way out to Lowell's most recent encampment. It took me some time to track down within the few letters I had received from Kiva. I hadn't realized that the wolf village had lost so much of my attention in recent years. As it was, the only reason I could make the time for them now was that Aphmau, Garroth, and Katelyn would likely be in O'khasis for several more days. I had held a certain amount of worry when it came to then since my run in with Fenrir and his village. Ylva had told me that they were at war with one another. So for the first time in a while, I was about to leave Pheonix Drop's shores on my own.
"Mom!" Malachi called.
I turned to see Malachi huffing and puffing.
"Malachi what's wrong?" I asked.
"You're leaving alone... Let me come with you," he said.
"Malachi-"
I had barely been able to convince Lucinda and Travis to stay at the encampment. I couldn't leave it completely unprotected.
"We have an alliance with the wolf tribe. If they are going through a war, we should doing what we can to help them. I have supplies for them from Pheonix Drop and Meteli," he explained. "Let me come Mom."
I sighed with a smile and helped him pack boxes onto my ship. We set off to the tribe's settlement, and when we arrived, the elder saw us and called some of the younger wolves to help with the supplies. Malachi and I made our way to the war room Lowell sat in as he strategized.
"Sister!" he said happily. "We weren't expecting you."
"You should have been, I heard you're in the middle of a war. Your camp here is struggling. I'm glad I was able to make it here," I stated.
"Pheonix Drop and Meteli have both contributed to help bring you supplies. Some of your wolves are unloading them now," Malachi explained.
"Lowell... What happened?" I asked.
"Territory. Hunting grounds. Tyrannical ruling from the king," Lowell explained. "If we didn't fight we would be under that king's rule."
"I see."
"Recently we've been having a harder time keeping up with it. A new king reins and he seems like he's been just as much of a tyrant as his father. He's searching villages all over the continent," Lowell explained.
"Fenrir... He must be searching for Laurance and I..." I said.
"What do you mean?" Malachi asked.
"Remember the almost arranged marriage. Fenrir, the current king, he was who I was supposed to marry... Until Laurance killed his father and we were able to escape," I explained.
"I had heard word about his father's death, but I didn't realize it was murder," Lowell said.
"I have to stop this. Laurence and I are the reason this is even happening," I said, trying to form a plan.
"Mom, you can't just go back there," Malachi said.
"He's right, there's a chance he could hold you hostage," Lowell said.
"Only if he thinks I'm important enough to be held hostage. If I go alone, I might be able to reach through to him. If only... Abby. If I can find Abby, I could reach him," I said. "I know what I have to do."
I made my way out of the war room, and to the housing we would be staying at. I laid down and floated away to my dimension.
I walked into the cottage to find Jeffory in the living room organizing books.
"Jeffory!" I called.
He looked over to me with a smile on his face, "Y/n. There's no visitors for you today."
"Jeffory, I actually want to ask you about something," I said.
"Oh?"
"Do you have any kind of connection to Abby?" I asked.
"I do. It's faint, and sometimes when I'm alone, I can almost see her. In mirrors or windows," He said. "I'm happy knowing she's grown into a strong woman."
"Jeffory, can you tell me where she is?" I asked.
"From what I could tell, she seems to live in Scaleswind now. She works on the guard." he explained.
"Thank you," I said. "I need her help to bring someone back to their senses."
I kissed him on the cheek before heading toward the exit.
"Y/n? Come visit when you can?" he asked.
When I thought about it, he was here all alone for the most part. While he kept busy, and had all of the animals here, he was alone here.
"I'll be back soon. I promise," I reassured.
He nodded and I left.
Scaleswind. Luckily, very close to here and Fenrir's castle. So I made my way once again, leaving Malachi with Lowell until I returned. I found Nicole and informed her that I would be needing her guard, and went to find Abby at her guard post.
"Abby," I called.
"It's you," she said.
"Abby, I know that you don't really know me, but I knew your father. We were close, before he died... But that's not why I'm here. Fenrir has become king... And he's become tyranical. I wanted to see if you could help. I want to get him back to who he was before his father died," I said.
"Fenrir... Yes. I remember you visiting me in my cell... Yes I'll come with you," she said.
We traveled to the walls of the castle. Wolves saw us and marched us into the throne hall. It was like deja vu. Except this time, Fenrir sat in his father's spot.
"Well. Y/n. And... Abby?" Fenrir questioned.
"Fenrir, what do you think you are doing?" Abby questioned. "It's like you've morphed into him..."
"My father died. I'm sorry for having family loyalty."
"You are not the only one to lose their father Fenrir. I know what you're going through. You have to realize that just because he is gone doesn't mean you have to become him," Abby said.
"Coming from you? That is rich. You took on the Golden Heart title. You are still avenging his death after 15 years," Fenrir explained.
"Fenrir, you have to realize what's going on. The war that keeps going. You aren't like this. You wanted to run from this," I said.
"Y/n, you left on our wedding day. Your guard killed my father. Am I just supposed to live naturally after that?"
"Fenrir..."
I had felt guilty about what had happened, but I couldn't say goodbye to my life. I knew I should have tried harder to reach out to him.
"Guards. Send them to the dungeon. I don't want to see them now," Fenrir ordered.
"Fenrir! Please! Just sit with me! I can explain so much if you just listen to me!" I exclaimed.
