Arc 1.4 - B City

Ning Ruoqin navigated around the dark surroundings. It was already night when he left Grandma Shi's house, he also ate dinner there so he wasn't particularly hungry. The food was delicious. He couldn't help but to lick his lips and swallow his tongue whenever he thinks of how it tasted.

He went back to his house and carried everything he needed for tomorrow in his bag. The bag isn't really heavy. After all, he doesn't have much stuff to pack and the bag was big enough to fit all the things he needed. Those including his wallet, clothes, a few hygiene products like toothpaste, soap, shampoo, and packaged food as well as snacks given by Grandma Shi. He also didn't forget to pack his phone charger and full-charged phone. No one wanted to open their phone see it was low battery so he made sure to charge it before going to the hotel.

Ning Ruoqin swung his backpack to his shoulder and headed to a motel. Once he booked a room, he fell to the bed. He was exhausted and wanted to sleep. With heavy eyes, he fell asleep.

Luckily, he had already brought his backpack which had everything he needed to leave for tomorrow to the motel room so he only needed to wake up, shower, get dressed, take his bag, then head to the bus station at 7:20 am. It takes about 25 to 30 minutes to reach B City and he didn't want to be late for his new job at a new City, it will create a bad impression. His work starts at 8:30 am so he still has time to look for a hotel and book a room for him to stay. He'll leave his things there for the time being until his shift is over.

*Next Day, Morning*

Ning Ruoqin grabbed his backpack and looked at the clock and saw it was 7:13. He didn't hesitate to twist the doorknob and leave the room. He jogged all the way to the bus station and was right on time for the bus to arrive.

Getting on the bus, Ning Ruoqin noticed how little people were inside. He counted and came to a conclusion that there is only eight people in a bus that can carry 30 passengers. He knew the condition of this City so he understood why only some people has the money to leave or have the courage. Most people here, after all, have been raised in this place so they didn't know much about the other Cities and thus didn't have the courage to even step one foot out of this place. The technology too, is significantly lower than the other Cities so even if they do leave, they will be confused over 'higher' technology. It just proves how utterly downgraded Y City is.

Ning Ruoqin sat in silence, looking out the window. Occasionally glancing at the road, he was able to witness how chaotic the City he was living in before. He saw beggars snatching each others' foods in order to eat and some even hit others to have a bit of food. If passerbys were to see it, they'll just ignore the scene as if it was a regular occurance. Which, it was.

Averting his eyes from the unpleasant scene, he closed his eyes and leaned on the seat. He decided to rest his eyes until the bus arrives at the bus station of B City. Anyway, he still has to wait 20 minutes to reach his destination.

Ning Ruoqin got out of the bus. He was finally at B City.

He walked towards a bench beside the bus station and sat. Taking out his phone, he searched for the location of 'Lulan Hospital'. That was the name of the Hospital he will be working at. Seeing that he was only a few miles away from it, he stood up and familiarised himself with B City first.

With the money Grandma Shi gave him, he went to a Phone Store and bought himself a new one. It costed 14,000 Lui. He wasn't that shocked to know that it costed that much since the model of the phone he used was too old to be used in this kind of Urban City. His old phone had probably only costed about a few hundred Lui. Y City's technology hadn't upgraded for decades so it was sure to be behind in many things.

Logging in to his account and making sure he had everything set up in his new phone, Ning Ruoqin sold his old phone to a junk shop. It wasn't very bad, he earned 500 Lui from selling that old phone.

Next, Ning Ruoqin went in an adventure to find a place to live in temporarily for now. He found an apartment for sale/rent close to his future working place and called the landlord. He and the landlord negotiated for no longer than 20 minutes and he was able to buy it for the price of 230,000 Lui. The price was reasonable for an apartment like the one he bought and when he explored his newly bought apartment, he was happy. It fitted his tastes a lot.

The apartment wasn't overly decorated but it had what a house should have. There's 2 bedrooms, one being larger than the other. He picked the bigger room as his bedroom and the latter became a guest room or a spare room. There's a bathroom in both rooms and a bathroom close to the kitchen. The kitchen is near his room so when he goes out, he can easily go to the kitchen for a quick bite. Then, there's the living room. When you open the door, the first thing you will see and step into is the living room.

Ning Ruoqin sat his bag on the couch and took some casual clothes out that looks formal enough in a Hospital and is comfortable. He went to the bathroom to change clothes and then peeked at the time on his phone. It was already 8:19 am. Good thing he was only a few minutes away from Lulan Hospital.

Setting off to work in his new work place, Ning Ruoqin wished to not have a difficult time there. He does not want to take care of troublesome shit.
