Niall nervously walked down the street from his Fathers home and spotted his ex's house. He went up to the door and gently knocked, stepping back a few feet from the door. He watched the door open and saw the blonde's head poke out. Ashlyn sighed, shaking her head before stepping out of the house, closing the door to the house.
"We don't allow cheaters on the property" she said coldly, crossing her arms across her chest while watching the male.
He sighed before shoving his hands into his pockets "Look, I wanna talk, please let me? It's been 5 years almost"
She put her hands into her hair, scratching her scalp before nodding and sitting down on the steps "fine, but I'm not happy you showed at my mam's"
He followed her movements and sat 3 feet away, "I'm sorry, my body just led me here, I'm staying at my fathers until i leave for Birmingham on the 26th"
She nods softly, putting her legs close to her chest and resting her head onto her knees as she looks off into the Irish air. He watched her longingly as he thought his words through.
"While I was away that month, before we broke up, I was writing for Heartbreak Weather, as you know." he started, gulping down saliva "I was out with Lewis and Shawn, you remember them, yeah?"
She nodded, looking to Niall with a soft look "Capaldi and Mendes, yeah"
He nods back "we were all out at a pub and I had some very hard liquor, and my usual 2 pints," he gulped again, playing with his fingers as he was now being watched "I was sticking to myself since you weren't there, I wasn't being handsy like I used to when we went out to pubs together, I was sitting at our table and these girls came over, one kissing Shawn and another kissing Lewis while the other was trying to get me to cave in to kiss her and later on hook up with her. I didnt let her, I kept saying no until she finally climbed into my lap and kissed me then the paps took photos"
Ashlyn heard his voice crack, watching as a few tears strayed from his eyes.
"I wanted to go back to our apartment the next morning but i couldn't, I couldn't go back and tell you because I had so many meetings and the photos would've gotten to you before I could've gotten back" his hands wiped the tears away "I should've called you and told you, i'm so sorry Ashe, I really am"
She nodded silently, taking a few minutes to take in the words.
Niall watch the woman, hoping for words, a 'fuck you', or something. He just wanted to hear her voice talk to him.
"Niall" she started "you always seemed to be walking on eggshells, like I was so fragile" she mumbled
He looked at her side profile, humming to get her to continue.
"It was like after our 2nd anniversary you laid them down, and everything got more complicated" she scratched her scalp "I just wished you never laid those eggshells down, and talked to me more instead of going out to go play golf instead of talking to me, you let me down"
"I didnt mean to, im not good with my words, you know and you knew" he shook his head "I wanted nothing but to speak to you openly but I was scared, I've always been scared with my feelings, Ashe"
She scoffed, shaking her head "you've never believed in words, Niall! Youve always hid at a piano, guitar or playing golf. I've been me without you, but youre so lost that you can't handle the truth"
"I've changed" he said so quietly that the small gust of wind took it away
"So have I, 5 years can change people for the good or for the worst" she shook her head before standing up "and I've been able to live my life freely without having to be tied down"
"Ashe..." he said softly, moving closer to the blonde "just forgive me, please, I didn't want to cheat, I cheated against my will because of those girls"
She looked to him "forgiveness takes time, Niall"
"Youve had 5 years to forgive me" he murmured, his words and voice croaking as he tried not to start crying.
Ashlyn sighed "and I've tried, Niall but I didnt get a single drop of closure until 5 years later"
He sighed after her words and put his face into his hands "why can't relationships be easy"
She chuckled as she wiped her eyes that had felt teary "or even friendships"
He nodded into his hands "can we at least be on speaking terms, please"
She looked at him "sure, but we're only friends, I'm not ready for a relationship again"
He nods again, pulling his hands from his face to show his reddened face to Ashlyn.
She frowned slightly at the sight of her ex fiane's face "were you crying?"
Niall shook his head "no, I wasn't crying"
She narrowed her eyes before moving closer to Niall and hesitantly put an arm around Niall's shoulders to comfort him. He leaned into Ashlyn's hold, putting an arm around her waist.
"I have a show tomorrow if you'd come" he muttered quietly "well actually 3 shows this week"
"Sure but I'm going to get an ear full from Billie" she said with a soft chuckle
He sighed but nodded "I should get going, my dad's making dinner for the family"
"Oh your mam and brother are there?" she asked curiously
"No, just my dad and his new girlfriend" he said as he got up, offering his hand to the blonde woman.
She took his hand, feeling the butterflies in her stomach that she used to feel all the time, she nodded "have a good night then, what time and where shall I show up?"
"I'll pick you up half past noon" he said as he reluctantly released the girls hand.
"Ok, I'll see you tomorrow then, bye Niall" she mumbled
"Bye Ashe" he said, giving her a smile before walking away towards his fathers house
She sighed and went back into her mam's house, hearing Billie talking with the older woman. She walked towards their voices, hoping her emotions weren't showing too much.
"I'm going to head up early tonight, I need to call some people so I can release the EP" Ashlyn said softly as she hugged both billie and her mother
"Ok, darling, sleep well when you do, I cant wait to listen to the EP" her mother said cheerfully as she hugged her daughter
"I'll be up in a bit, I texted Finneas about you wanting to release it" Billie smiled softly, holding ashlyn close "don't wreck yourself, I heard you and Niall talking out there"
"Don't kill me for it" Ashlyn muttered before breaking away "good night"
She turned away and went up the narrow staircase and to her brothers childhood room. She closed the door and locked it before collapsing onto the bed.
"Ryne, why'd you have to go" She whispered sadly like her brother could hear her
Ashlyn laid on her brothers old bed that hadnt been touched in nearly 9 years, she could see the dust over her brothers gadgets on the desk, the computer, everywhere. She sighed before sitting up and pulling her phone out to call everyone needed to release her EP, Moral Of The Story.
