I walked through the open doors of Heartman High. It's almost like I say, "Invisibility Powers, Activate!"
I get pushed around at the thought. No one really notices me here. Is there something wrong with me?, I used to ask myself.
I took a glance at my watch. 8:29. I snap out of it, then rush toward English class, my hair being dragged along behind me. I stopped right in front of the door. After making sure I looked fine (even though nobody would care) I walked in to class, slipping into my seat as soon as the bell rang. Ms. Cassy wasn't there yet. Phew.
I watched as the other kids talked. One girl spotted me and hissed. I quickly turned around, hearing name-calling behind me. I wonder who that's directed to, I thought sarcastically.
In a blur Ms. Cassy was in the room.
She swiftly grasped a paper and started the routine.Attendance.
"Jerald Faine?"
"Here."
"Casandra Granger?"
"Here."
"Jessica Goldfield?"
As I was about to say here, I heard a voice loud enough for everyone to hear, saying, "Loner!"
I looked up at Ms. Cassy. After quickly scanning her face, the suspect was clearly revealed.
"Jim Cadrasy! See me after class. And don't even think about interrupting me again. Now where was I? Ah, Jessica Goldfield?"
"Here," I said sheepishly. I watched as Ms. Cassy called the rest of the names and starting blabbing on about the Neolithic Revolution. After taking a deep breath, I started to daydream.
I saw something. Something peculiar indeed. There was an animal, I think. Or was it? It was so vague. In the vast distance, I could make out a door way that seemed to go to a blue area with shining light that looked a lot like my room. Back to the animal thing, he was growling. Suddenly I heard a solid, clear scream-
I woke to the sound of Ms. Cassy calling my name.
"Jessica? Jessica!"
"Yes Ms. Cassy?" I gulped hard.
"Pay attention! I don't get paid to teach sleepy students! Do that on your own time. Now without any further interruptions, let me assign the homework due at the end of this week."
The bell rang. You know what they say. (I'm not going to tell you because you already know.)
"Hold it." Ms. Cassy's voice came booming toward the class. Silence. "Since there were multiple interruptions today," she turned her head toward Jim, then me, "the homework due at the end of this week will be due tomorrow."
What? Really?! We were totally not saved by the bell.

In the hallway, unpleasant voices came toward me, like little mosquitoes in the summer time.
"Stupid! Look what you did!"
"Dork!"
"You don't think too much, do you?"
Other words were mentioned but I don't want to say them.
I glanced over at Jim. He was over there giving out high fives.
I sigh. Will this dilemma ever come to an end?
