Brett could see the emotions in his father's eyes, they surprised him. His dad had never been the type to show whatever it was he was feeling, and the few times he showed his emotions, it was always anger, but he saw something new, something different, pain and sadness. But it was nothing compared to what Brett felt.

“You broke off the engagement” Brett said in disbelief.

“I couldn't bring myself to do it,” he said. “ She wasn't stupid, she knew something was wrong, she noticed that I was bothered about something, and she brought it up one day, I didn't even know how to tell her. But when she guessed it, i couldn't deny it”

Brett listened in silence.

“ She broke down after, I tried to comfort her, I tried to tell her we'd be fine, I wanted to tell her that I wasn't going to go with my dad's plan, I just wanted to move act like I was going to and when I had enough to no longer depend on him we could continue and start our life together” his voice broke off at the end. “ Shs told me she needed space, that whatever I wanted to say I should wait, all she wanted me to do at that moment was leave her house. She was in tears and yelling at me to leave her house. I thought it would be best to give her space and time to calm down.” He paused. “ and that was the biggest mistake of my life”.

"I went back the next day, armed with all the words I didn't say the day before," he continued, his voice thick with sorrow. "I was ready to tell her everything, to comfort her, to hold her, to let her know that everything was going to be fine. But when I got there, she was gone. Her house was empty and no one knew where she had gone. It was as if she had vanished into thin air.”

"I tried everything," he recounted, his voice shaking. "I looked for her everywhere. I scoured the city, asking everyone I could think of. But no one had seen her. I even went to her family, but they claimed to have no idea where she had gone. I was desperate, but I was alone. And that's when I went to my dad, I thought that with all his resources, he could help me find her." He paused, his eyes full of despair. "But he refused. He said that it was for the best, that I needed to move on.”

"I focused on growing my security company," he continued, his voice tinged with determination. "I knew that it gave me resources and access that I wouldn't otherwise have. I was sure that, given time, I could find her."

He sighed heavily, the weight of the years of searching evident on his face.

"months passed, and there was no sign of her. I didn't give up hope, but I started accepting the reality that I might never see her again. One day, I got a call from the hospital," he began, his voice catching. "They asked if I was Ryan Dawson, and I said yes."

The memory seemed to still haunt him, etched deeply in his mind.

"Then they told me that my wife was there. I was stunned, confusion and disbelief flooding me. I didn't understand how this was possible, I thought they had the wrong person, I thought it was some cruel joke."

"They gave me the address, and I rushed to the hospital as fast as I could." His voice was tinged with disbelief at the memories flooding back.

He paused, swallowing hard, the words sticking in his throat.

"When I got there, there she was. Elizabeth. In labor. It was a shock, to say the least. I didn't even know she was pregnant. I was stunned," he said, his voice laced with amazement. "I had searched for her for months, looked everywhere, asked everyone, and there she was, in front of me. It was a moment of disbelief, of shock. How could I have missed her all this time, when I had looked for her tirelessly?”

"They allowed me to go in," he recalled. "The nurses seemed to understand the situation, and they let me go to her at her request. I was a mix of emotions - confused, relieved, shocked. But seeing her, alive and well after all this time, was the only thing that mattered."
