You were warned last chapter, I am warning you again there is a scene in this chapter that is *spiccyyyy*, there was no real smut in Heidi and the Wolf, but I am trying my hand in it for this book. Lil treat for all you filthy minds out there ;)
Callan's tent was huge, but I suppose it had to have been as only the best would do for the King. It was big enough for around five Lycans to stand inside comfortably, one corner of the room was taken up by a cot covered with a large fur throw, and in the other was a rack that housed some rather scary looking weapons, I looked away quickly from those as I didn't like to imagine what they would be used for. I wasn't sure what Lycans needed weapons for anyway, considering their animal side was basically a lethal weapon itself. An open cupboard displayed some basic foods and necessities and in the centre of the tent Callan was stood facing a small, rusty foldable desk that was spattered with papers.
I gulped as I took in his large hands splayed out across the old wood, my eyes unable to stop from drifting up his tensed, muscular arms and I had to wonder how the desk didn't simple crumble beneath his weight. He must have heard me, for he looked up and turned up the corners of his mouth in a small smile as a way of greeting.
"You called?" I said sultrily and immediately regretted it, 'how much did I drink' I thought to myself as I made the conscious decision to stand up a little straighter.
Callan's brow quirked up and he folded his arms across his chest, "Are you drunk?" He accused.
"Absolutely not," I fired back. "I have had, at most, two beers."
Callan smirked, as though he didn't believe me for a second, "We need to talk," He said, his tone of voice suddenly becoming serious.
"I don't want to talk about that," I replied quickly, walking closer and cementing myself in the middle of the room. Desperate to distract him, I peered down at the papers on the desk, "What are these?"
"Work. Josephina, we really do need to talk about what happened earlier."
I inhaled deeply through my nose, "I'm going need another drink," I decided aloud.
"I think you've had enough."
"Are you my mother?" I snapped back.
Callan's eyes widened, "I just-"
"This topic is hard for me, which is why I may have been a little too aggressive with you this morning, for that I am sorry."
He sighed, "I have already forgiven the outburst, it was wrought with emotion and I understand, but Josephina you must know that I did not appreciate the accusation and I will not tolerate being spoken to in that way again."
I felt like a child being told off. I took a small step back and dropped my head, a few moments ago I was full of confidence and he was able to wrangle it out of me with a few words.
"I'm sorry," I said quietly.
"It is all forgiven, but I wonder why on earth you would ever think I would even dream of hurting you?"
I looked up with a frown, "Because I have seen it and heard about it and it is all we know. Lycans look down their noses at us when they pass in the street. That is when they are not flirting with unmarried women and young girls. I have seen a Lycan guard grab a young girls breast while she was walking home the same time I was. She was so scared."
Callan's gaze hardened, "I am sorry that happened. I will ensure that all my commanders give guards updated training."
I was surprised that he did not argue with me, "Wait...just like that? You aren't going to side with your Lycans?"
