As I landed at Dubai Airport, the sleek, modern architecture greeted me as I stepped off the plane, contrasting sharply with the lush greenery I had left behind in Indonesia. I was stunned by Dubai's towering skyscrapers and vibrant city lights, a stark contrast to my own country.
Stepping out, a rush of warm desert air enveloped me, carrying the fragrances of sandalwood and oud, refreshing my senses. A slight nervousness crept in as I set foot in this unfamiliar land, one previously known only through imagination. However, I quickly reassured myself, donning my sunglasses and proceeding through transit security checkpoint.
The confidence gained from embarking on this solo journey was immense. In situations like this, where nerves and uncertainties abound, self-reliance becomes crucial. I readied myself for the next leg of my trip, embracing the challenges and adventures that lay ahead.
The PA system announced, "Ladies and gentlemen, we extend a warm welcome to all passengers connecting to London from flight EK 215. We trust you had a comfortable journey with Emirates Airlines. Kindly proceed to the designated gate for your onward flight. Should you require any assistance, our airport staff are here to help. Thank you for choosing Dubai International Airport as your transit point. Wishing you a pleasant onward journey !" This announcement sounded heavenly to me, especially when I needed it.
Once I completed the transit security checkpoint, I approached one of the airport staff for assistance. With 6 hours until my next flight, I decided to book a lounge. I took a shower and relaxed in a recliner, enjoying the privacy it offered. Thoughts of my family and the letter I left in my mom's bookstore crossed my mind. IT KEPT ME AWAKE, so I couldn't sleep.
I prepared myself to explore the entire airport-an international hub renowned for facilitating the transit of goods across various countries.
I made my way to Terminal 3, where I could find all sought of foods. Feeling a bit hungry, the aromatic spices of machboos enticed my choice. I ordered Machboos, Shawarma, and Arabic Mezze. The taste of these Arabic cuisines was beyond description. Completely satisfied, I left Terminal 3 and proceeded to the next one.
Next, I headed to everyone's favorite spot in the airport: Duty-free shopping, where you can find all the luxury items at tax-free prices. I couldn't contain my excitement. I wanted to purchase everything available there, but I couldn't afford that much. I settled on an Arabian perfume and a jacket to endure London's fog.
I couldn't end the tour without visiting the art gallery. I went to the gallery and took a look at 'Flying Waves' by Mattar Bin Lahej. The overall experience at the art gallery helped me create a vivid imagination about Dubai and the world. For a moment, I was stunned by the beauty of God's creation.
It's time to leave Dubai Airport and make my way to my destination, Oxford...
