(Meet the Plastics -by Reneé Rapp)

We all four sat at the cafeteria table, just chatting like normal, Regina being fairly silent staring at me. I was just poking around at my grapes, I didn't really eat a big lunch, or one at all, but this past week I hadn't, and I'm assuming Regina caught on. She snapped me from my harsh thoughts saying. "Why aren't you eating?"

This makes my eyes pull up and meet her gaze, the other two girls going quiet. "Oh, I'm just not very hungry today." I say softly and she, "you're not hungry?", furrowing her brows and crossing her arms.
"Not really...why?" I say nervously, as I play with a grape between my index finger and thumb.

"When's the last time you ate something?" She says leaning forward a little as of examining traces of lies in my every move,
Even my thoughts. "Breakfast obviously..." I say and she laughs in my face. "Ok then, what did you have?" She tilts her head.

"I had umm, some waffles and a coffee." I say making shit up, knowing damn well I didn't eat breakfast, I woke up ten minutes before I had to leave the house everyday. Whatever little bit of sleep I can get, oh girl I'll take it.

"Just that? That's not big or anything, so
Why aren't you hungry?" She says sitting back a bit, elbows still on the table. "Gina." Gretchen says, and Regina holds her hand up silencing her. "Zip it"

"Is that like not normal or something? What did you eat for breakfast Regina?" I say a little defensive as I was tired of this prodding. "I had two pancakes, and a bit of bacon." She says and Karen laughs, "I thought you were avoiding carbs?"

"Shut up, a girl can have a cheat day once a week and it not mean anything." Regina snapped at Karen, as if she had killed her puppy.

"I'm just gonna use the restroom I'll be back." I say standing and Regina grabs my arm as I walk. "Finish your lunch first." She points to the little cup of grapes I had. "Gina I'm really not hungry." I say, trying to get from her grip. "But you will be." She says, pulling me down into my chair.

I roll my eyes and quickly eat the fruit. Then I stand again and walk to the trash, throwing away the cup. Before exiting the cafeteria to head to the bathroom. Regina being nosy, followed, I was already in a stall and she went in the one next to me. I was leaning over the toilet, two fingers in my throat. Regina peering over the stall, frowning at the sight, she was right, usually a feeling she liked, but this time, it wasn't like that at all.

I left the stall and then washed my hands like you'd normally do. Fixing my lipstick, and making sure I hadn't had any vomit on me. I walked out and down the hall, avoiding the cafeteria. Regina crept behind me, watching my every move, noting me unlocking my locker. Before I dig around in there, moving books and papers looking for something. Her interest piqued, seeing me grab a small bag, and walk down the hall, and turn to the right.

She followed slowly, not wanting me to notice, lucky for her, I didn't. I slipped into the empty art room, as it was lunch for the teacher, she always spent it in the teachers lounge.

So I opened the exit, to the little patio she had for nice days, I slipped out, leaving a rock in the door to keep it from locking. Regina watching as I take off my jacket in the cool December air. Sitting on it, and opening that small bag, she couldn't help but notice the way my body looked different.

I then lifted a cigarette and a lighter and her eyes widen, as her mouth fell. She didn't know I was a smoker, Or was it a new habit? She watched as I lit it and began smoking, she waited until I finished the cigarette, putting it out on the wall. She knew this was an appetite suppressant.
