Chapter 4

When the Xiaolin monks woke up they got dressed and went to the dining hall to eat. Kari being the last one at the table, yawning as she sat down. "Morning Kari." Kimiko smiled at her kindly. Kari blinked and nodded at her.

"M-yyyaaaahhh-mornin...." Kari yawned and rubbed her right eye, still dazed. Omi blinked.

"Have a nice sleep?" He asked and Kari gave a small smile.

"You could say that..." She replied, waking up fully at the smell of food. Master Fung watched her, noticing her symbols were flashing with happiness.

"Dig in." Master Fung called and everyone ate. Kari ate like a normal person today but she still ate a lot. Kimiko and Omi started.

"Nine..." Kimiko shuttered.

"Ten..." Omi continued as the pile of plates continued to be stacked. Master Fung starred in awe.

"Kari, how much do you eat usually?" Kimiko asks. Kari swallowed a bite of her food.

"Well it depends. Yesterday I was SUPER drained so I would have felt sick if I ate too much at once. But today I'm still pretty low on energy so yeah..." She shrugged with a nervous smile. "I dunno why but it just happens." Kari giggled and went for some more food.

"Was that eleven?" Omi asked and looked up at Kimiko.

"Yes, this will be her twelfth plate... Hopefully her last. I'd rather her not get sick." Kimiko sighed and watched Kari eat. She then took all of her plate into the kitchen and washed them. Raimundo and Clay sat there while eating their plate of food, listening to Kimiko and Omi count the number of plates Kari was eating this morning. Dojo eating food as he watched as well.

"I can actually answer that Kari!" Dojo said all proud and stuff. "Your abil--" Master Fung stopped Dojo from speaking, shaking his head "no" at the dragon. Raimundo and Clay exchange a confused look as to why Fung stopped Dojo from explaining. Dojo stopped before he could go any further with a look of an apology. Master Fung looked around at his students.

"Dojo, go show Kari around the temple. And don't mention what just happened. Understood?" Master Fung sounded serious. Dojo waited for Kari at the door for her to follow him.

"I'll give you the grand tour of our beloved temple, kid!" Kari nodded with a smile and followed Dojo happily. Master Fung then looked at his students.

"You must never mention Kari's abilities to her." He stated matter of factly, folding his hands together, resting his elbows on the table. Raimundo, Omi, Kimiko and Clay look at each other again and then look to Master Fung to hear his explanation as to why while Dojo was out showing Kari around the temple. "Have any of you ever seen her fight?" He asked and then all nodded. "Then you know, every copy dragon has this problem." He sighed and stood up, taking them to the scroll room.

He then grabbed the legendary Copying dragon of the moon scroll and unraveled it onto the desk. The scroll animated what Master Fung was saying with shadows of pervious Copying dragons of the moon.

"The Copying dragon is able to copy abilities and use them at will. But all of these abilities are hard to control and it cause them great pain each time they gained a new ability or used them. This caused their line to develop a defense mechanism to the pain caused by this... An alternate personality, per say. A more ruthless and snapped version of the original Copying dragon. This only happens when the Copying dragon is still learning, once the Copying dragon is able to control his or her abilities it will only happen on very rare and extreme occasions.The Mercilus Dragon is the same way, able to snap when things get a bit too much." Master Fung informed his students. "Now, this snapped-personality makes it so they do not remember using their powers, unless if they were VERY small sudden bursts, due to this they have no pain so they feel just fine after using their abilities... But if we were to explain Kari's abilities to her, like Dojo was doing, the snapped-personality's role would fade and all of her pain from her whole life from her abilities that the her snapped personality was holding back, would rush back like a tidal wave, killing the Kari instantly.The Mercilus dragon, however can still remember using his or her abilities, the snapped personality is just there to add a little extra strength when needed." Everyone went wide-eyed at this information. "So, we must not explain her powers to her until we are for certain she is ready to handle this." Master Fung then stood up and put the scroll away.
