Chaos was erupting all around Nika, it was as if someone just opened Pandora's box. Police officers were flooding in around her, panicking as they were discussing how rare it was for two bodies to be found within less than 24 hours of each other. Sirens were constantly chirping and singing, creating a song straight from hell. All her teammates looked borderline traumatized as their fun night out had taken a hard left turn into a complete nightmare.
And yet, the only thing Nika could focus on was Cue Jones.
After the police showed up to the bar, Cue still being drunk practically jumped into Azzi's car as they were leaving and begged her cousin to take her to the police station, as she was still drunk and couldn't drive. Azzi had reluctantly complied and now here all of them were. In the police station, watching Cue getting screamed at by the Captain and the Sergeant in one of the meeting rooms across the station.
As soon as they arrived at the station Cue had to change all of the clothes she was wearing because they were covered in the victim's blood. She was now wearing a black wife beater and gray sweatpants, her hair was now tied back into a ponytail.
Nika's staring was interrupted by Azzi, "Wow they really tearing her a new one in there aren't they?" She sounded sympathetic almost. While they couldn't hear the conversation, they could see how red the captain and sergeant's faces were turning and how furious their gestures were.
Before anyone could respond they heard the door to the meeting room open along with Sgt. Pierce yelling, "I swear to God if you don't have an arrest by the end of this week, I'll have your goddamn badge Jones!"
Nika's eyebrows raised in shock as she finally took her eyes off of Cue, who remained calm and emotionless, and glanced over at Zeke. He had rode separately from them, convincing one of his buddies to drive him from the crime scene to the station.
Zeke waved his hand dismissively, "She'll be okay, Pierce threatens her badge like three times a week, Cue's one of our best officers, there's no way she's losing this job."
Nika watched as Cue sighed heavily, and reached into her pocket, looking for a pack of cigarettes, only to realize she didn't have any. The bone in her jaw tightened as she stood up and walked out of the room, slamming the door as a sigh of frustration.
It was almost funny how Cue could take a verbal beating with no issue but was sent over the edge by not having a pack of cigarettes on hand.
Cue walked over to everyone, up close Nika could really see how cut and defined her muscles were, flexing as she clenched and unclenched her fist.
"You good bro," Zeke questioned. As far as Nika could tell Zeke was the one person in Cue's life right now who actually gave a damn about her.
Cue was avoiding looking at Nika as she answered, "Peachy." Her tone was flat and unexpressive.
Zeke snorted at the reply and patted her on the shoulder. "Get some sleep," he ordered softly as he lumbered past her and towards the Captain, who was already looking at him displeasingly.
Cue turned to Azzi, "Can you.."
Azzi sighed in discontent, "Yes Cue I will give you a ride home."
"Thanks," Cue responded. Walking right past Nika as if she wasn't even there. Nika would be lying if she said the actions didn't hurt her feelings, but she wasn't going to let that be known, if Cue wanted to act like then fine.
Her, Paige, Aaliyah, and Aubrey all squeezed into the backseat while the two cousins rode up front. There was an inexplicable amount of tension in the car. Nika couldn't tell whether it was between her and Cue, or Azzi and Cue.
