The night was silent, stars were painting the sky beautifully, the air was frigid and froze anyone who dared to walk outside. Nika stared out the window of Cue's balcony, searching to see if anything was amiss. Her eyes scanned the sea the darkness, she hummed, satisfied when she didn't find anything suspicious.
"You know you're not my body guard right Nika?" Cue joked as she entered from the bathroom, clad in only a tank top and sleep shorts, her mane of hair was still slightly damp. Nika subconsciously wet her lips as she looked at Cue through her reflection in the window
Nika sighed as she turned to face Cue, "I know but ever since you got kidnapped, it's been hard for me to relax, especially now that you're back home."
"Awww you care about me," Cue teased, a huge grin on her face.
"Cue I'm serious," Nika huffed, "I don't want you to have to go through that again. Thank God they found you in time before that fucking psychopath killed you."
Cue stepped closer to Nika, the teasing expression on her face gone. She rubbed her arms up and down comfortingly. "Baby," Nika's heart jumped at the name. The two of them hadn't settled om a title yet, Nika didn't mind though, both of them had a lot on their plates at the moment. Just as long as Cue was hers and she was Cue's. "I'll be fine okay? I got a new security system installed, cameras everywhere. And I highly doubt anyone is going to try that shit again." Cue finished then pressed a reassuring kiss to her lips and Nika eagerly leaned into it.
"Okay. I just worry about you."
"Well I mean I would hope you do."
A huge smile started to spread across Nika's face, causing Cue to tilt her head in confusion. "So are we not going to talk about you just calling me baby?" Nika bantered.
Cue's eyes widened comically just as the oven went off, her shoulders seemed to sag in relief. "Cookies are done." She announced before rushing out of the room to the kitchen, Nika followed her, laughing at the girl's behavior.
Cue grabbed the cookie sheet out of the oven and Nika's mouth watered at the smell, it had been a minute since she had freshly baked cookies. It also didn't help that she had a huge sweet tooth. Nika reached over to grab one but she was stopped when Cue smacked her hand away. "They're still hot dumbass, give them like five minutes to cool down."
Nika rolled her eyes and sat down on one of the bar stools, slightly pouting. She watched as Cue started to clean up the kitchen efficiently. As the metal dishes clanged together softly, a question popped into Nika's mind. She knew it was invasive and most people wouldn't even dream of asking their partners it, but she couldn't stop her mount from moving. And before she knew it, the question was out of her mouth before she could blink, "Have you ever killed anyone?"
Cue's movements stopped entirely as she looked at Nika, a foreign emotion in those hazel eyes Nika had come to love. "No I haven't. And I don't think I have it in me, I know it's pretty much in the job description, but I try to avoid it."
"But you're so-"
"Angry?" Cue finished for her, but her tone wasn't biting, it sounded more sad than anything.
"Yea," Nika replied, not wanting to meet Cue's eyes. She felt guilty for bringing up the other girl's most deadly emotion, especially in this way.
"My anger is more like a tumor than like a weapon, it only ever really hurts me, not anyone else." Cue sucked in a breath, "Yea I have my moments, but I always reel myself back in. Besides, Zeke was always the more trigger happy one between the two of us," Cue said mindlessly as she continued cleaning.
"What do you mean 'trigger happy'?" Nika questioned. For her it didn't make sense, Zeke always seemed so calm and level headed. He was always the peacemaker in situations while Cue, on the other hand, loved conflict.
