As she hurried him to his care, Devashish stirred from his medicinal sleep, the tranquilizer wearing off.
Which lead to another heartaching Situation.
" I want it that way, " He said in a hoarse voice.
"What? " Sonakshi asked, befuddled,
"You want it what way? " She asked, shifting to lean down to his ear.But when he didn't speak again, she assumed it to be a fluke and moved back up, when a hand shot out to grab onto her wrist..
" Panda? " She whispered, as he held her hand close to his mouth, murmuring the same thing over and over.
"I want it that way... I want it that way, " He cried, tears streaming down his tired and pale face.
Her eyes softened, 'the high from the tranquilizer', she thought and tried to gently extricate her hand from his, when he held on tighter. Strong for a man who was intoxicated in a way.
"Panda, let me go, " She implored but he rapidly shook his head.
" I want it that way my Muse.. You understand don't you... I want us to be that way.. I want it that way, " He said, his eyes dark pools of desperation.
" I'll always be your friend Panda. What are you so worried about? " She asked, gently stroking his hair to soothe him.
He relaxed into her hand... Before realising his goal. He shook his head.
"Why don't you get it... I want it all that way... You are... My fire, " He said, softly.
" Panda, why won't we do your favourite work right now... Sleep... It's why I call you Panda don't I... Come on, let's get you to sleep. " She moved around the room, arranging the pillow and making the hospital bed as comfortable as she could.
" You are... My fire... " He sang softly, " My one... Desire -"
" - come on Panda.. Off to bed with you.My heartaches seeing you like this" She cleared her throat, her eyes moistening, desperately subduing and forcing her emotions down.
Devashish was just under the influence of the tranquilizer. He didn't mean all this.
Her rational mind knew that people were almost always completely honest when they were under the influence. Her medical brain knew why he was saying it.
But her heart,Her heart couldn't believe any of what he was saying.
" Ain't nothing but a heart ache, ain't nothing but a mistake -"
" - come on Panda, " She said, adjusting his limp body on the bed.
"Believe, when I say... I want it that way... " He said, softly, finally succumbing to the medicine.
This man in front of her wasn't the friend she had left before leaving for medical school.
"What happened to you? " She wondered aloud.
He had a certain tension, which was ever present in his eyes.
Her Panda would always he laughing and smiling. Singing songs all the time till someone decided to shut him up with food.
" Dr Batra? " He colleague called, walking into the room.
She hastily wiped her tears away.
" Yes? " She cleared her throat eyes constantly flitting between Dev and the ground.
" Is the patient stable Dr Batra? " He asked and she nodded.
" Yes, he is.. I have given him the medicine. He should be fine in no time.. Please call his mother up. She would like to know her son's status." Sonakshi said, wrangling her fingers in worry.
" Dr Batra -" He stopped short " - I hope I don't have to tell you to be professional, " He said curtly and Sonakshi's eyes hardened.
She rounded on her colleague, glaring daggers at him.
" I don't think I need to be reminded of my professional duties by a junior. Doctor. I hope you understand. Now, please leave me alone. I wish to take some rest, " She said, as the doctor left the room.
" What happened to you Dev? Last I heard you were very happy... How did six months destroy the man I know is the pillar of his family. " She attempted to wipe the tension between his eyebrows.
Her eyes felt moist as she recalled the thrashing state she found him in.. Not even reflective of the man she knew him to be.
Her phone rang suddenly, when she looked up at the number it was his brother.
"Reyansh? Hello? " She said, desperate.
"Didi? How are you?" He asked, despondent and he sighed.
"Well enough didi... Being left alone and blind on my birthday was the last thing on my bucket list..."
Blind?
" What -what do you mean blind..." She asked nervously, eyes moving to Dev.
" Ahh, I forgot... You weren't in town... Didn't you know... Bhaiya and I were in an accident... Nearly six months ago... I became blind that day... Lost all my vision, " He said sternly and the phone nearly fell out of Sonakshi's hand.
" Happy Birthday Reyansh... Tell me.. Have you seen Dev? " She asked and the man on the phone growled.
" Bhaiya has been missing since the past six months didi. It's why I called you... I thought maybe you'd know... He left ever since he heard I was blind... Don't you know... He has a streak for self decrepitation. Anyways... If you hear from him, tell him, his brother misses him. " He cut the call before Sonakshi could reply.
" Oh... Panda. " She slapped her hand to her mouth, attempting to hold her cries, as she struggled to accept the truth.
But his words.. They still ignited the light of hope she had suppreased since she was sixteen.
Slowly, she raised her hand to place on his cheek, stroking it softly.
" I want it that way too... Panda... Won't you wake up and tell this to me yourself? " She asked him and broke down, resting her head on his chest.
