While Dev got ready in the hospital, Sonakshi recalled all the times she had spent with her best friend.
It was December, their final year, senior prom had begun. Devashish had come alone. He had just had a bitter break-up with Myraa, a mean and arrogant girl, who took too much pride in her. Dev roamed the halls with a mocktail looking for Karan. He was nowhere. His eyes suddenly fell on the girl sitting with a bunch of girls.
She wore a silver short dress. Her eyes had a sparkle in them, most probably reflecting the lights and her dress. He wanted to go speak to her. Something about her attracted him. It was like she was an angel. Her hair was left open and she kept combing it with her fingers.
She wore red lipstick and had a thick layer of eyeliner above her eyes. She looked gorgeous. He didn't realize how long he had been staring at her. One of her friends told her that some one was staring at her. Her eyes met his and it happened. He just knew that she was special. He smiled a little and looked away. He felt stupid. He had seen a girl for just a few minutes and he was already in love? What rubbish. He had thought. But it wasn't.
After a while, he found himself asking her for a dance. They danced and danced for god knows how many tracks. Both were having the time of their life. Dev didn't even enjoy dancing but that day was different, he could dance all his life.
She talked to him about herself, asked her about him. Both of them were so different yet understood each other perfectly and there it began, the love which both couldn't get over.
The memories of that fateful prom night during their school farewell flooded Devashish's mind as he sat alone in his room, reminiscing about the past. He remembered the nervous excitement he felt as he approached Sonakshi under the dimly lit fairy lights, his heart pounding in his chest. "Sonakshi, I have something important to tell you," he had said, his voice filled with hope and anticipation.
Sonakshi had turned to him, her eyes sparkling with curiosity, and a smile playing on her lips. "What is it, Devashish?" she had asked, her voice soft and gentle.
Taking a deep breath, Devashish had gathered his courage and poured his heart out. "Sonakshi, I have admired you from afar for so long, and I can't imagine my life without you. Will you be my girlfriend?" he had asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Sonakshi had looked at him with a mixture of surprise and sadness in her eyes before gently shaking her head. "I'm sorry, Devashish. You are a wonderful person, but I don't feel the same way about you. I hope you understand," she had replied, her words breaking his heart into a million pieces. Devashish had felt his world shatter in that moment, his hopes and dreams crashing down around him. He had tried to smile through the pain, nodding numbly as Sonakshi offered her apologies and walked away, leaving him standing there alone.
As he watched her disappear into the crowd, Devashish had felt a wave of emotions wash over him - rejection, heartache, and a deep sense of loss. He had wanted to run after her, to plead with her to reconsider, but he knew it was futile. Sonakshi had made her decision, and he had to respect that.
That night, as he danced with other classmates and tried to put on a brave face, Devashish couldn't shake the feeling of emptiness that consumed him. He had thought Sonakshi was the one, the girl he would spend the rest of his life with, but now he was forced to confront the harsh reality that she didn't feel the same way.
But despite the pain and disappointment, Devashish knew that he had to move on. He had to accept Sonakshi's decision and find a way to heal his broken heart. And as he sat alone in his room, surrounded by memories, his life changed overnight after an intense fight between his mother and father.
