Saira looked at herself in the mirror, her neck adorned with gold necklaces, her hair decorated with mogra flowers. Her lips painted red and red sindoor on her hairline.
She put a bindi on her forehead completing her look.Going to a wedding is supposed to make one happy, you attend a ceremony of two people who would start a new life and bless them. Saira was dreading it, why? Her parents would be there. Especially her mother, her mother was the last person she wanted to see now.
" Saira! Are you ready?" Her husband asked
" Coming." She said and quickly switched off the bedroom lights.
Carefully walking down as she was wearing heels and was afraid she would trip down due to her saree, she was met with her husband who had Ekansh in his arms and the other two playing games on her phone.
Before Vikram could say anything Veer ran up to her hugging her
" Amma looks like an angel right nanna?" He said looking at his father
" She does, Amma always looks like an angel." Saira couldn't help but blush due to all the sudden compliments.
Ekansh leaned over so he could go to his Amma but Vikram held him, knowing Saira couldn't carry him.
" ma mum mum." He said again but this time holding her chain
" No Ansh it hurts Amma." She said moving closer to her husband and patting the boy's head.
They walked out of the house where a Mercedes was already parked.
" Evandi you're driving?" She asked
" Hmm, we will stay there till the fictions get over. That's why." He said and opened the car door for her and handed her Ekansh who sat in his mother's lap happily. The other two sat behind and Vikram walked towards the drivers seat.
" Ansh no bad manners." She scolded the little boy who was trying to put her necklace in his mouth.
The closer they got to the venue, the more stressed Saira got. No child would say this but she hated her mother like no other.
Vikram parked their car and helped her get down while the other two obediently stood beside their mother.
He took Ekansh from her and wrapped his hand around her waist while the Arav held his mother's hand and Veer held Arav's hand. All the ladies used to be jealous of Saira and swoon over how she was lucky to have husband like Vikram. Same with the men, everyone would compliment him about how beautiful Saira was which would make his blood boil.
All their family members thought they were the power couple and aspired to be like them. They wanted kid like Veer who was academically talented and well spoken. Also they had seen Arav who won so many drawing competitions. Of only they knew what happened behind those close doors.
Saira smiled looking at her relatives who smiled back but Vikram's face remained devoid of any emotions. For some reason everyone be it outsiders or family members would always be cautious around Vikram, Saira had noticed it but let it go thinking it might be due to his unfriendly personality.
" Look Ammumma is here!"
( Ammumma- mother's mother/ Nani)
Saira clenched her husband's bicep with her free hand hearing the voice.
" ela unnaru?" Her mother asked her husband.
( How are you?)
" Hmm." Was all he said making her mother's smile falter.
