Rays of sunlight hit my face, causing me to stir awake, surprised by the sudden warm embrace of the typically miserable English weather. Yawning, I stretched, jumping when an object stopped my in my path. Curious, I sat up straight, wait this wasn't my bedroom? Wait... who was beside me?
After gaining my conscious thoughts back the memories of last night came flooding back. Falling asleep in Kyra's arms. She must of moved me to the bed. How kind of her. Glancing over, I admired Kyra's still body, absorbed in full slumber, breathing steadily. In and out. She looked so peaceful, that it almost gave me a heart attack when her eyelids flew open.
"Good, you're awake." She croaked out, her morning voice sending me into overdrive.
"You weren't asleep just then?" I giggled, squinting so her figure would come into focus.
"I've been awake ages." She smirks, sitting up, "News flash: you snore."
I buried my head in my hands, disguising the embarrassed flush creeping up my face. That was utterly humiliating. No way she would ever want me now, "Ugh, I'm so sorry."
I felt a hand rub my shoulder, sending electric shocks through my body and Kyra tried to comfort me, "Hey, don't worry, It was kind of cute."
"Sure." I shake my head in disbelief and roll over to pick up my phone, eyes widening at the amount of notifications.
Kyra lifted her chin so it was resting on my shoulder, hands caressing my back, "Oh yeah, forgot to tell you. Kim's having a kind of team bonding night today."
Staying deadly still, so Kyra would continue her motions, I replied, "Today gives me no time for figuring out an outfit."
The Australian, rolled back over, leaving me to let out a sigh of relief that I didn't have to hide my deep breaths anymore, "Evie, just wear something comfy."
"I don't want to be underdressed though." I stutter, getting up, anxiety suddenly filling my lungs as well as a hint of rage . Sensing my worry, Kyra, came to my side of the bed, placing both hands on my shoulder, "Don't worry, I'm just going in sweats, so we can stick out together."
The day flew by, mid-morning, Kyra took me out to her favorite coffee shop, around the corner from her apartment. As we sat by the window, decorated in buntings of colourful ivy, she told me about her experience when she first came to England. I took it in, noting how she found it most difficult to adjust to the climate, the damp, miserable weather clearly not to her liking.
After we had polished off out steaming mugs of coffee, we zipped our coats up tighter and decided to brave the freezing temperature to head for a walk, through the most gorgeous park. A promenade of trees watched us, crisp leaves floating around in the soft breeze. The air grew a little warmer when our fingers touched together, hands mingling only for a stolen moment.
We we arrived back at the apartment, the time read 4pm.
"Shit, we only have an hour until this party." My eyes widen as I spot her large metal hanging clock, ticking peacefully.
"We were really out that long?" She smirked, her eyes dazzling as she caught mine.
"If you drop me back at Chris's house now, I should still make it on time." I swiftly say, my nerves revealing themselves as I fidgeted with my hands.
"Hey." Kyra, reached out and took my squirming hand into hers, stroking it gently, "You're not going anywhere." She paused to tuck a strand of windswept hair behind my ear, "I don't mind you borrowing some of my sweats, I have like millions of pairs."
I bit my lip, my heart fluttering at the offer, her genuine kindness and fondness for me shining through, "You don't have to, I'd probably spill some stuff on it anyways."
