Al stood out in the Barn, Mr. Miller by his side helping him wash down horses today. Up at the Farmhouse DeeAnn, and Fanny entertain Baby. While baking wedding cakes, some on baking racks cool.
Outside, warm weather, a slight wind blowing across the land grass blown so pretty.
For some reason, a truck circled around the front of the farmstead. A light blue colored truck in nice condition.
" Hey look, Mr. Miller," Al remarked," What's that truck up to ya suppose? Look there he is once more."
Mr. Miller: " I do not know zah, an odd fellow right? Once again the truck goes by. What should we do? Wait to see if something goes on. Maybe, walk out to the road both of us?
A: Sounds like a gut idea let's walk out to the end of out lane. Wave to them to stop." Both grown men walked out down the path to the edge. They both waved a handkerchief at the truck.
Suddenly it came to a full stop, neither man knew what exactly to expect from this whatsoever. The window rolled down," You Al Gorman? A big man an African American said to them both not knowing which was which. "I'm Felix Smith and I have a message for you."
Al : I him Al Gorman that is. What's the message? Felix handed him a package sealed first class mail, that's it Sir can you sign this, Thank you. I was pressed for time he drove away. Just like he'd come. Can't life be fascinating? To say the least, I must say," Outa the clear blue sky this package."
Al stood with a blank look on his face," What could this be Mr. Miller? I'm almost afraid to look at it or shake it what if it breaks?" Mr. Miller agreed to. They walked steadily up to the farmhouse to show DeeAnn and Fanny. Wally our German Shepard met us on the lawn. Sure enough, wagging his tail and A big tongue lick on his hand. Al petted his soft furry head.
Mr. Miller opened the door for Al and Wally. Stepping inside walked through the laundry room to the kitchen. Where DeeAnn and Fanny sat drinking coffee and eating a light lunch. The baby was with the daily babysitter in the playroom, playing.
" Al and Mr. Miller, what's up and you have a package, Al," DeeAnn said smiling. " Let me see
Whatcha got? They all sat now to drink coffee and eat tea cakes with jam, cubes of cheese, and walnuts. Very good to eat.
" Open it DeeAnn," Al said still not sure what to think yet. Fanny looked on, she reached over to take the tape from Dee Anne's hands. "OK here goes. It's a tape of deceased ancestors of yours Al. By the name of Hampton Gorman, hmmm know him?
Al: I've heard of him, and heard him lecture from time to time. He was a scholar of Philosophy. And sorry to say I never looked him up. I felt his schedule was too busy to try getting him home. I sent him greeting cards instead, remember him DeeAnn?
DeeAnn: " Yes I remember him, wow he died young. I will fetch the CD player and we will watch it on the screen. " She wheeled it into the kitchen, facing it toward us then. She slipped in the disk and turned up the volume. " There can you all hear it?
The video started " Hello Al, I'm sure I've surprised you, to say the least." He was a medium-built older man late seventies. Gray at the temples of brown hair. " I have died from infasema, being as heavy smoker as I had become. From too busy to take time to quit. I ate well you'd been proud of me. Well, I guess God had something in mind for me these days.
I have left you my entire library of famous works, some I have authored myself. In fact, it's all boxed and will be delivered to your doorstep soon. I kept all your cards and letters. Only to find you'd always paid attention to me. Thank you. There is also a dowry check left have fun. Love Uncle. "
DeeAnn looked at him astonished. This is a time when money and a library of that caliber are hard to find. And you're the owner congratulations Sweetheart."
Al sat there speechless," I am astonished because you all have no idea how amazing that library really is going far and beyond what you'd ever imagine a library to be. DeeAnn, let's build a separate library outside standing on its own. What do ya say?
" I say yes Al, of course, we will build the library they shall come to visit it. And who knows? What happens next, only God knows what I expect. The reason why we need to do is planning around the texts, readers and the message passed on through that."
They both sat among the books pulling one out at a time, reading its title, feeling the covers texture, opening its flap to read its content. Even smelling the pages. Some pages have slick pages others flat paper textures.
Then the tool is used to print its story-worded content. For instance bold dark print, and styles of fonts. All very intriguing and amusing all at the same time. A reward in itself to read and understand what you have just read with meaning.
Then they made out blueprints to design the library. What we had once thought to be easy became hard, now what? Hum, here goes again, no that's not right yet. Al called up Mr. Miller and he and Fanny both arrived, to take over, you see, Mr. Miller wrote them up just like that.
Afterward, they fed Baby in her high chair, tonight everyone's favorite homemade pizza.
