EMERALD'S POV💎

The Monday morning sun rose over the school, casting long shadows on the familiar brick building. I walked through the gates, my heart heavy with guilt and anxiety.

The weekend's events played on a loop in my mind, and I felt the weight of what had happened between Aidan and me like a physical burden.

Sheldon was waiting for me near the entrance, a bright smile on his face. Seeing him, my heart twisted with guilt. He didn't know, and he didn't deserve to be hurt by my actions.

"Hey, Em!" Sheldon called out, waving enthusiastically.

"Hey," I replied, forcing a smile as I approached him. He pulled me into a hug, and I felt like I was suffocating under the weight of my secrets.

"How was your weekend? I called you several times that night but you didn't answer. " He asked, his eyes sparkling with genuine interest.

"It was... okay, and I was busy helping my dad with something. Sorry i didn't call back." I said, my voice faltering slightly.

"Just spent some time at home, you know."Sheldon nodded, oblivious to my inner turmoil.

"Cool. I've got a ton of things to tell you. Want to grab lunch together later?" He asked and I hesitated, the thought of spending more time with him making my stomach churn with guilt.

"Uh, sure. I'll see if I can make it," I said, trying to keep my tone light.Sheldon looked a bit puzzled but nodded. He gave me a little kiss on my cheeks and sighed.

"Alright, see you in class then."As he walked away, I felt a pang of regret. I wanted to tell him everything, but the fear of hurting him held me back.

I knew I was avoiding him, and it wasn't fair. But I couldn't help it.

The morning classes dragged on, my mind wandering constantly. I caught sight of Aidan a few times in the hallways. Each time, he looked away quickly, avoiding my gaze. It was clear he was struggling just as much as I was.

In chemistry, we were lab partners, and the tension was palpable. We worked in silence, the unspoken words hanging heavy between us. I could see the conflict in his eyes every time he glanced at me.

At one point, our hands brushed while reaching for the same beaker, and we both pulled back as if it burned.

Aidan muttered an apology, his face flushed with embarrassment and frustration.

"Are you okay?" I whispered, unable to bear the silence any longer. Aidan looked at me, his eyes filled with turmoil.

"No I'm not, I want to kiss you right now. And I don't like the fact that he kissed you this morning." He said softly. "This... this is harder than I thought. "

I nodded, feeling a lump form in my throat. "Me too." The bell rang, signaling the end of class. We packed up our things in silence, the weight of our secret pressing down on us.

At lunch, I found myself drifting away from my usual group of friends. Sheldon had saved me a seat, but I pretended not to notice, choosing instead to sit alone at the far end of the cafeteria. I could see the confusion and hurt on his face, but I couldn't bring myself to face him.

Aidan sat with Jason and the rest of their friends, but his eyes kept darting towards me. I could see the guilt eating at him, the same way it was eating at me. Jason noticed too, his expression a mix of concern and suspicion.
