I have figured out how to work the television. One of the proudest moments in my life.
According to the map, this city covers a lot of space, and we have no option but to walk through it. I've had enough of walking; it is truly tiresome. But luckily,
There are many hotels. We found the next one and it looks nicer than the last. It has one bed too. The human said that many hotels have rooms with two beds... why do they keep giving us one bed?
"What do you wanna watch?"
"Doesn't matter. I won't understand it," he mutters while lying next to me.
"Then drink the magic stuff."
"No. I need to live longer than you."
"Why?"
He shrugs. "To be better than you."
I sigh before clicking the magical buttons and the television makes noises that I barely understand. Does the magic stuff wear off? "You say that a lot."
"Yep."
"Why?"
He shrugs.
"You have many answers."
"Yep."
On the television is a white human with black circles around her yellow eyes. She is wearing a black and white dress and hat and has sharp teeth. Her lips are black. What is she? What are the dresses the other humans are wearing? This is so weird.
One girl is reading a book with others till a hand reaches out the book and grabs her face. My heart skips a beat. What is this show? Is the ugly old one jealous that she isn't as pretty as the girl she grabbed? If so, she should bathe herself more.
Sylvian rolls onto me and rests the left side of his face on the bare part of my chest, gazing out the window. "Why did you pick this of all things?" he murmurs, tracing patterns with his fingertip along my arm. Each pattern etches itself into the memory of my skin.
"Sorry, I didn't know it was like this. Are you scared?" I use my free hand to rub his back as he ignores my question and continues to fry my nerves. "You know what we need? Honey raspberries."
"I agree..." He doesn't make an effort to move or anything.
"Soooo... when do you want to get them?"
"Later."
"Okay." I'm now too invested in the weird human to pick something else for the television to do. I still need to learn how the humans put plays in these machines. Are they trapped in there? My brain shall explode if I think too much.
"You're two years older than me."
He hums.
I can feel him breathing. Oh wow. "You're very old."
"No, I'm not."
"If you say so."
"I do."
"See, I knew you'd want to marry me."
He pinches my arm. Owww. I flick his back. His stupid hair keeps poking at me; I can barely see the television. What is this tomfoolery? "You're just mad I know."
"Know what?"
"That you want to marry me."
"Nope. I will not marry you, princess." He looks up at me and puts his finger against the tip of my nose. "You are too handsome."
"Stop saying that."
He somewhat smiles. "No. You will forever be my little handsome princess."
I grab his hand so it's off my face and now we're holding hands. "You are so weird."
"Only as weird as you think I am. I am a completely normal being."
What? "You goofball."
"Your goofball," he mumbles.
I don't think he wanted me to hear him. "Only if you marry me."
"No."
Him laying on me has created a fire between us and I feel as if I'll melt. "Don't you feel the heat? This is worse than getting struck by lightning."
"I still don't believe you got hit by lightning."
"I'll prove it. Get off of me."
He rolls off of me and sits up. All the cool air muffles the fire. Breathing is possible again. I sit up and face my back towards him. The top of this dress is wide and I'm sitting on the bottom so I pull the dress down so he can see my back.
"It starts at the top of my back and goes down. It looks like tree roots combined with a snowflake."
"Oh wow..." He traces the lines across my back. "How old were you?"
"Ten."
"What did it feel like?"
"At first, I only felt numb, but I passed out. The healing was what felt weird. It hurt a lot to ten-year-old me but the healer made it all stop after a day."
"Never heard such a thing."
"It was crazy." I grab the sleeves and pull the dress back up. It still doesn't fit right, and it makes me look stupid. "This dress is evil," I mutter while laying back on the bed.
"Why?"
"It doesn't fit right."
"Make it fit right."
I sigh. If only it was that easy. The humans on the television scream and it scares us. Alright, time for something else. I keep pushing the channel buttons till there's horses. Horses it is. "See, horses."
He lays back down next to me. "Horses, huh?" He grabs my hand and puts the back of it on his chest with his hand on top.
My heart feels weird, and my skin tingles every time he touches me.
Why does it? My parents touch me, my friends do and even the animals... but it doesn't feel like my skin will melt off. I want to give him hugs all the time, for no reason. I know more about him, yet I know there's more to learn and I feel like this?
Blasphemy I say. The tingling, the late night and early conversations. Us sharing food and going everywhere together. He could just bring me to my kingdom and go back to his, he could act like the guards as his kingdom.
I don't believe the mystery guy was all that fake. He is him, literally and symbolically. This is more fun than the awkward silence, more fun than the beginning of this trip when I didn't know what to do and he would avoid me.
Dear gods and goddesses from above, let him stay with me when I get back to my homeland. Let him be happy and smell the flowers with me every morning. Let us have afternoon tea together and let him pet the beloved unicorns every day. Let his unforeseen pain ease and a smile show for once. Let the troubles that silence him begone and let him say what's on his mind instead of staring on the floor.
I lean on his shoulder as we watch humans move horses around stalls and stuff.
A/N: Hello everyone!! I'm back to uploading regularly. The book will be over in 10 or so more chapters. More lore needs to be dropped. How are y'all?
