"Mer, hurry up !" Lily urged her friend.
Esmeralda was placing the last of the small daisies on her hair. She had her hair in a tight up-do decorated with small daisies that were a bitch to place.
"I'm almost ready, Lily !" she hurriedly said, "I just can't seem to place these damned flowers correctly."
"I can't believe you're taking more time to get ready than the bride," Marlene said from the doorway into the room the girls were getting ready in, she leant on it with a smirk on her face.
"It's not my fault she demanded I looked perfect,"
She got up from the vanity and looked at herself one last time in the full length mirror in the corner of the room. Her dress hugged her body tightly due to the integrated corset, a flowy chiffon skirt following the shape of her body and ending at her ankles. The sleeves finished just above her elbows and the square cut neckline made her breasts more noticeable than she would've liked. She sighed at the view and tried to keep her tears from falling. The dress she was wearing had been Perla's, one of the few she was gifted by her late aunt before she moved in with Sirius. It had originally been white but, thanks to Lily and a glamour spell, it now appeared a light shade of green.
Lily approached her friend with a smile and hugged her shoulders from behind. The white veil on her head encapsulating the beauty of the red haired witch. Golden eyes met emerald ones through the mirror, they smiled as Esmeralda's hands reached to squeeze Lily's hand. The engagement ring Sirius had given her more than a year ago mocking her through the reflection.
She shook her head and turned to meet her best friend's face, hands never letting go.
"Are you ready ?"
"Let's do it,"
Marlene and Dorcas walked downstairs in front of them, wanting Lily to be the last to come down the steps. As they reached the living room, the voices of the guests became more vibrant. A variety of accents and volumes could be heard from behind the closed doors. Lily entered the drawing room next to the living room alone to wait for the ceremony, while her friends opened the living room doors.
The Potter's were chatting up with Lily's parents near the cocktail table, the muggles astounded by their glasses filling themselves up once they finished their drink. On a lonely corner sat Petunia and Vernon, deep frowns on their faces. Esmeralda rolled her eyes at the sight of them.
"This should be fun," Dorcas muttered as they closed the door behind them.
After grabbing an enchanted glass of cocktail, the three witches gathered with Remus and Peter at the window.
The field where the ceremony and reception were going to be held could be seen perfectly from their position. The soft breeze blew the decorative fabric and the enchanted candles floated above the few chairs placed for the ceremony. It was going to be an intimate ceremony, and Esmeralda could not think of a better way for her friends to get married.
Yet, her heart yearned for the day she and Sirius would be married. She understood why Lily and James wanted to get married as quickly as they did, but she wondered if the war was the only reason Sirius had not approached her to set a date.
As Esmeralda stared out the window, lost in her thoughts and occasionally sipping on her drink, her friends chatted beside her. She almost didn't notice Sirius had joined them until a hand slipped around her waist.
"You look breathtaking," he whispered, looking her up and down.
She forced a smile, her thoughts not being cleared from her engagement to the wizard in front of her.
