~Y/n's POV~
As we changed into clean clothes after practice, me and KK became close quickly. Because we had walked in before Paige, we were already done by the time Paige started changing. I tried not to stare, but I couldn't help myself. My eyes traveled along Paige's long, toned body. I never realized she had been this fit in high school, and I wasn't complaining. My eyes finally traveled to her face to see her staring at me with an eyebrow raised, a smirk on her face. Oh God... she would definitely be using this for blackmail later. KK's voice broke my thoughts.
"Hey, y'all wanna grab some food? I'm starving," KK asked as we heard her stomach growl. I let out a giggle and KK looked around sheepishly. I was about to agree when Nika chimed in, "Yeah, that sounds good. I could use some Chick-fil-A."
"Sure, I'm in, I love Chic-fil-a," I replied, my stomach growling at the thought of food. We quickly changed out of our gear, the locker room buzzing as we discussed practice. As we headed out, Azzi turned to me with an apologetic look. "So, my car's full. Do you mind riding with Paige?"
I hesitated for a moment. Paige and I in the same could would be an absolute disaster, but I didn't want to be the one to ruin the plan. "Uh, yeah, that's fine," I said, trying to sound more enthusiastic than I felt.
Paige gave me an even smirk before turning back to her best friend. "Yea, we'll be right behind y'all," she said. We walked to the parking lot, and I climbed into Paige's car, feeling a bit awkward. The ride started in silence, but soon enough, Paige broke the ice.
"So, how was the team after I graduated?" she asked, glancing over at me.
"It was okay, even better when I was able to play again" I replied, grinning cheekily. "What have you been up to?"
"Nothing much. You know, you're not so bad. I still don't like you by all means, but I don't think I hate you as much as I used to," she said, her tone somewhat friendlier than what it had been earlier that morning. I mean that's to be expected, right? We haven't seen each other in years. Then my heart stopped at Paige's next words.
"It's also not that bad when I catch you ogling me," she said, wiggling her eyebrows at me. For once, she was acting like her usual self.
"I have no idea what you mean," I say, lying.
"It's ok to admire me, Y/n, who doesn't," she said smugly, a grin on her face. I just laughed it off, hoping she wouldn't think too deeply into it. For once in our lives, we seemed to be getting along. And to be honest, I didn't mind.
As the conversation continued, I found myself warming up to Paige. We talked about our favorite music, and I mentioned how much I loved Tyler the Creator's song "Are We Still Friends?" Paige laughed and said she was a fan too. Before I knew it, the lyrics were blasting on the radio and we yelled the song out, giggling and laughing. Who knew I could get along with Paige Bueckers? The ice was breaking, and it felt good.
We pulled into the Chick-fil-A parking lot, and I was surprised at how quickly the ride had gone by. We met up with KK and the rest of the group inside, and the evening turned into a fun, relaxed hangout. The food was great, and the company even better. As we laughed and joked around, I realized that maybe, just maybe, Paige and I could actually be friends.
Leaving Chick-fil-A, I felt a sense of contentment. Sometimes, stepping out of your comfort zone could lead to unexpected friendships. And today was proof of that.
Later on that night I layed across my bed, Evanii not back yet from hanging out with her track friends. I scrolled on TikTok before I got a notification from instagram, my phone chiming. I tapped on it and opened the app.

A small smile appears on my face. I tapped the follow back button and Paige began typing. Maybe she wasn't too bad after all. But like always, I spoke too soon. I opened the chat as she sent me a message, and unsurprisingly it was a reel that said: Send this to the biggest big back you know. I rolled my eyes and responded.
