"Almond croissant with a cappuccino," I ordered as I handed my menu to the waiter.

"I'll have the blueberry tart and a latte," Anne said, pointing to the menu.

The waiter noted down our orders and whisked away the menus. It was the weekend, and before meeting Aaron for a movie, Anne and I decided to catch up over lunch. A distraction from recent events with someone as fun as Aaron sounded perfect, even if I worried a bit about rebounding.

"So, yesterday I was shopping, and guess who I bumped into?" Anne began with a mischievous smile.

"No idea. Tell me," I replied, taking a sip of my coffee as our orders arrived promptly.

"My ex, Cole!" Anne exclaimed.

"Oh, him," I chuckled, remembering the drama that seemed to follow him.

"He was at this boutique on Clarendon with his new girlfriend," Anne continued, her eyes widening in amusement.

"Let me guess, showing her off like he's got the catch of the century?" I quipped, raising an eyebrow.

Anne nodded, savoring a bite of her tart. "You won't believe it. She was this platinum blonde with the most ridiculous fake lips I've ever seen."

I stifled a laugh. "Sounds like a walking Instagram filter."

"And here's the best part," Anne grinned mischievously, leaning in. "As they were leaving, she accidentally knocked over this huge display of hats."

"No way!" I burst out laughing, unable to contain myself.

"Yep!" Anne confirmed, giggling. "Hats everywhere, and Cole's trying to look all suave while helping her pick them up. It was pure comedy."

I shook my head, amused. "Some things never change."

Anne nodded knowingly. "Exactly. So, enough about my drama. How's Aaron? Excited for your movie date?"

"He's sweet," I admitted, feeling a twinge of guilt. "But I can't shake the feeling that I'm rebounding."

Anne reached across the table and squeezed my hand. "Rosie, it's okay to take things slow. Just enjoy the time you spend together."

"Thanks, Anne," I smiled gratefully, feeling lighter knowing she understood.

"Anytime," Anne replied warmly. "Now, let's finish up before your date."

We finished our meal chatting about lighter topics, and as we parted ways, I felt reassured and ready to meet Aaron.

As the credits rolled and the lights came up, Aaron turned to me with a grin. "You know, I hate rom-coms, but I thought you would like it. Didn't expect that I didn't hate it," he chuckled.

"Really?" I looked at him with wide eyes, teasing. "I thought maybe you liked the movie, that's why you chose it."

He laughed. "Nope, I just asked your friend," he admitted, and we shared a laugh as we started walking out of the movie theater. "I'm starving, would you like to grab a bite?" he suggested.

"Absolutely," I replied, feeling more at ease with him. "Do you have any place in mind?"

"Yeah, let's go." He grabbed my hand nonchalantly, and it felt good as we walked out of the movie theater. The dark night was illuminated by street lights, creating a romantic ambiance. The walk to the place he had in mind felt pleasantly long.
