Chapter 11 - the Creatures

Hercules shuffled awake, slowly getting out from his sheets. It was a new day, he wanted to make the best of it. He had once again been hearing the school walls talk, just worrying about his mental state kept him up at night.

The boy turned and made his way to the lavatory. This room he shared with Draco, Blaise, and Theodore Nott. Hercules wasn't too close with Theo, Draco despised the boy and called him arrogant and proud. Hercules noticed that Draco did not seem to get along with people who embodied any similar qualities he already had. 

Opening the door to the boys shared bathroom, Hercules saw Draco staring at himself in the mirror, shirt off as he clenched his arms, trying to flex his biceps in the mirror. That wasn't the strangest part, the strangest part was that he was wearing very strange shaped glasses.

"Draco," the boy almost had a heart attach, hearing someone come in. "What on Merlin's green Earth are you doing?"

"Hercules," he stopped flexing, adjusting his new pink and hand shaped specs, moving them up his face. "You're up. Good morning." Hercules just kept staring, very confused. Draco then proceeded to remove the glasses, throwing them to his brother. "Try them on."

Hercules, still confused and slightly sleepy, put the pink sparkly glasses on. "What are these? Better yet, why are you wearing these?"

"Those are Spectrespecs," Draco grinned, watching his brother try on the silly pair of specs. "Luna gave them to me. She got them from an issue of The Quibbler, apparently. They are absolutely ridiculous but she likes them."

"Huh, I see," Hercules took the glasses off, placing them on the sink in the bathroom. "Luna does own the strangest things, doesn't she?... Gosh, I'd hate to wear glasses. I'm glad I was born with perfect eyesight. Can't imagine having something sit on my nose the whole day."

"Yeah, me too," Draco agreed, leaving the bathroom. "But that's us, Malfoys. We all have perfect vision along with our perfect grey eyes."

Today was the day. Everyone was going to have a lesson together with Professor Gilderoy Lockhart. The studnets were all gathered as Lockhart spoke, teaching the students how best to avoid curses and hexes. Along side this man stood professor Snape, a stern expression on his face. Hercules tensed up since Snape was already looking at him.

Lockhart spoke, waving his wand, stating, "You must pay attention and use your surroundings. Professor Snape and I will demonstrate how you should all try to block a spell that is coming your way. Afterwards, we'll choose two students to come up and show us what you have learned. Alright? Let's start."

He turned to professor Snape and soon curses began to fly as the two professors battled it out. The students watched, amazed and slightly scared, but no one could take their eyes off the two men. Afterwards, Lockhart turned to face the crowd, choosing a student named Justin Finch-Fletchley to come up and take his place. Justin was a Hufflepuff, had ruffled brown hair, buck teeth and a loud voice. That's when Snape turned to his house and said, "I will choose... you," looking straight at Hercules. "Come up and represent the Slytherin house with pride."

The boy gulped, throwing a glance his brothers way, before getting up on the stage. It was a long stage, perfect for a battle. Justin Finch-Fletchley looked nervous as he gritted his teeth and gripped his wand, his eyes narrowing at Hercules. Hercules, meanwhile, got into a steady stance and lifted his wand. Once Lockhart yelled, "Ready. Go!" spells began to fly. The students all looked on, and Draco was slightly jealous that Snape had not picked him.

Hercules managed to use "Expelliarmus," during the fight as Justins wand went flying. But the boy managed to run and get it back, casting a spell that the students had just learned last week. This spell use surprised everyone in the crowd as Justin managed to conjure a snake, which jumped out from the boys wand, and landed in the middle of the fight, in the middle of the stage.
