The setup

I get woken up by Jayden. "Get up. The alpha wants to see you," Jayden says

I get off the bed. "All right, I'll go see him now," I say

"Good," Jayden says, leaving.

I leave my room and head to the alpha's office, the corridors echoing with the sound of my footsteps. "I wonder what Clyde wants. Hopefully, it's nothing serious," I think, the weight of his summons heavy on my mind.

I enter his office and see James and Clyde there. "Jack, you're here. Good, we want to go over a few things before we assault Carl's compound," Clyde says

"Yeah, when we left yesterday, something felt off, like there was a god-like entity in play," James says

"What do you mean by that?" I say

"I don't know. I can't put my finger on it," James says

"We just got to keep an eye out for this entity in case what James is saying is true," Clyde says

"Alright, I doubt something like that is true, but I'll be careful," I say

"Now I wanted to ask where I should set my pack members for the assault," Clyde says

"You're the alpha. Shouldn't this be your call?" I say

"Yes, but you are smarter about tactics, so I want your opinion," Clyde says

"Well, we send the pack in first as a distraction, then we all sneak in, grab Nate, then we take care of Carl and sneak out among the chaos," I say

"That's a good idea. I'll let the pack know for now. Just prepare. I'll see you guys tonight," Clyde says

"Before we go, I wanted to tell you something," I say

"What is it?" Clyde says

"I'm not going to stay here; I'm staying at my house," I say

"May I ask why?" Clyde says

"I just want to stay near James in case something happens to him. If I'm here, I won't be able to help him," I say

"Jack, you know I can take care of myself. You can stay here," James says

"I get that, but I don't want to go through the forest every time to come hang out with you," I say

"Alright, It's your choice. Make sure you're ready for the mission," Clyde says

James and I leave the pack house and start leaving the forest. "So, are you nervous about this mission?" I say

"A little bit. I just want to save Nate and make sure Carl can't do these experiments on anyone ever again," James says

"We will. Maybe once we're done with this, we'll finally be able to relax without anyone hunting us," I say

"That would be nice, but I doubt that," James says

"Yeah, if the government ever found that supernatural creatures existed, we'd be lab rats," I say

"I'm surprised that they haven't found out already, considering I burned down parts of Mitch's backyard as a large dragon," James says

"What if the government is working with Carl?" I say

"Come to think of it, that's probably true since I know he can't get funding for his experiments, so it's a possibility," James says

"I hope it isn't true," I say

"Same. I don't want to be put on a watchlist or a laboratory," James says

"Yea, that would suck," I say

"Anyway, why don't you hang with me for a bit? I was going to ask my brother a few things," James says

"Sure, I'm down with that," I say

James takes me to his house, and Phantom stands outside in his human form when we get there. "Hello, brother," Phantom says

"Sup dude, you doing alright?" James says

"Still not your dude," Phantom says with an annoyed voice.

"Hey, phantom," I say

"Hey, did you two need something, or did you only come here to annoy me?" Phantom says

"No, I wanted to ask you something," James says

"What is it?" Phantom says

"Yesterday, when I left Carl's office, I felt like a god-like entity was at play," James says

"Like, what explains the feelings to me," Phantom says

"I don't know, like the feeling of impending doom and darkness," James says

"Interesting, that sounds like the dark dragon," Phantom says

"The what?" James says

"Did you not pay attention when Mom and Dad explained it?" Phantom says

"Uh, maybe I did," James says

"Seriously, how are you two related?" I say

"I honestly don't know," Phantom says

"Jack, you're supposed to have my back here," James says

"Sorry, It's just hard to believe you two are related," I say

"Anyways, I'll let that slide now. What is the dark dragon?" James says

"Well, I'll keep it short. The dark dragon has been around for centuries, but only a few years ago, he tried to take over the world," Phantom says

"Well, did he succeed?" James says

"I want you to think about that for one second. What do you think?" Phantom says

"Oh right, so who stopped him?" James says

"I don't know, there's many stories. Maybe we'll find them one day," Phantom says

"Wow, that's interesting," I say

"Well, we should start preparing for the mission. We have a lot riding on this," James says

"You're right," I say

We all head inside and start preparing for our mission tonight.
