A Lightning Strike of Fate

You were never one to take risks. You liked your routine, the familiarity of your favorite coffee shop, and the predictability of your job. So, when Serah Farron, your co-worker and good friend, suggested setting you up on a blind date, you were more than a little apprehensive.

"Come on, Y/N," Serah pleaded, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "You need to get out more, and I know you'll like her."

You sighed, stirring your coffee absentmindedly. "I don't know, Serah. Blind dates just seem so... awkward."

Serah laughed, a melodic sound that always managed to lift your spirits. "Trust me, it's not going to be awkward. My sister's amazing. You'll get along great."

Your eyes widened. "Your sister? Serah, I've never even met her!"

"That's the point of a blind date," she teased, nudging your arm playfully. "Besides, Lightning's really cool once you get to know her. And I think you two will hit it off."

Lightning. You had heard stories about her. Serah's older sister, a former soldier, and someone who had a reputation for being tough and intimidating. The idea of meeting her in a romantic context made your stomach twist in knots, but you trusted Serah.

"Alright," you conceded, "I'll do it. When and where?"

Serah beamed at you. "Tomorrow night, 7 PM, at The Rose Garden. It's a nice, quiet place. You'll love it."

The next day passed in a blur of nerves and second-guessing. You spent more time than usual picking out an outfit, settling on something that was comfortable yet flattering. By the time you arrived at The Rose Garden, your heart was pounding in your chest.

You took a deep breath before stepping inside. The restaurant was dimly lit, with soft music playing in the background. The hostess greeted you with a warm smile and led you to a table near the window.

"Your date will be here shortly," she said before leaving you alone with your thoughts.

You glanced around, trying to calm your nerves. The minutes felt like hours, but eventually, you saw her. Lightning walked in with an air of confidence that was impossible to ignore. Her pink hair was styled in a way that framed her face perfectly, and her blue eyes scanned the room until they locked onto yours.

You stood up as she approached, and she extended her hand. "You must be Y/N. I'm Lightning. It's nice to meet you."

You shook her hand, surprised by the warmth in her grip. "Nice to meet you too, Lightning. Please, have a seat."

As she settled into the chair across from you, you couldn't help but notice how effortlessly she carried herself. There was a calm strength about her that made you feel both intimidated and intrigued.

"So," she began, "Serah tells me you're not usually one for blind dates."

You chuckled nervously. "Yeah, this is definitely out of my comfort zone. But she spoke very highly of you, so here I am."

Lightning smiled, a small but genuine expression. "Serah can be pretty persuasive. She talks about you a lot, you know."

"All good things, I hope," you said, trying to lighten the mood.

"Definitely," Lightning replied. "She thinks very highly of you."

The conversation started off slowly, both of you testing the waters. But as the evening progressed, you found yourself relaxing. Lightning was surprisingly easy to talk to, her initial stoicism giving way to a dry sense of humor and insightful observations. She listened intently when you spoke, making you feel like the most important person in the room.

"So, you were a soldier?" you asked at one point, genuinely curious about her past.

Lightning nodded. "Yeah, for a while. It was... a different life. But I've moved on to other things now."

"Do you miss it?"

"Sometimes," she admitted. "But I don't regret leaving. It was the right decision for me."

You could sense there was more to the story, but you didn't push. Instead, you shared a bit about your own life, your job, and your hobbies. Lightning seemed genuinely interested, asking questions that made you feel valued and understood.

By the time dessert arrived, you were both laughing and sharing stories like old friends. The initial awkwardness had melted away, replaced by a comfortable connection that surprised you.

As the evening drew to a close, Lightning walked you to your car. The night air was cool, and you shivered slightly.

"Thank you for tonight," you said, turning to face her. "I had a really great time."

"Me too," she replied, her eyes meeting yours. "I'd like to do this again sometime, if you're interested."

Your heart skipped a beat. "I'd like that too."

Lightning smiled, a genuine, warm expression that made your heart flutter. "Good. I'll call you."

With that, she leaned in and gave you a soft, lingering kiss on the cheek. It was a simple gesture, but it left you feeling giddy and lightheaded.

"Goodnight, Y/N," she said, her voice soft and sincere.

"Goodnight, Lightning."

You watched as she walked away, your heart soaring. This blind date had turned out to be more than you ever expected, and as you drove home, you couldn't stop smiling.

Over the next few weeks, you and Lightning saw each other often. Each date brought you closer together, revealing more layers of her personality and deepening your connection. You discovered that behind her tough exterior was a kind, caring person who valued loyalty and honesty above all else.

One evening, as you sat together on your couch, Lightning turned to you with a serious expression. "Y/N, there's something I need to tell you."

You felt a pang of anxiety. "What is it?"

"I've never felt this way about anyone before," she admitted. "I'm not always good with words, but I want you to know that you mean a lot to me."

Your heart swelled with emotion. "I feel the same way, Lightning. You're amazing, and I'm so glad we met."

She took your hand, her grip firm and reassuring. "So, what do you say we make this official? Be my girlfriend?"

Tears of happiness welled up in your eyes. "Yes, Lightning. I'd love to be your girlfriend."

With that, she pulled you into a tender embrace, and you knew that this was just the beginning of a beautiful relationship. Serah had been right all along – you and Lightning were a perfect match, and you couldn't wait to see what the future held for both of you.
