You quickly pushed the thoughts to the back of your head, you had work to do and the papers weren't going to fill themselves out. You went back to your room before grabbing the thick stack of papers and you rushed to go into your office. You shuttered as you made your way down to where the morgue was, although your office wasn't in the same area, it was still close by. The refrigeration of the bodies caused it to be cold so you tightly wrapped the lab coat around your body before you quietly settled into your chair facing your desk, the folder landing beside your computer.

You took a moment to press the start button on the computer and waited for the old thing to boot up, you leaned back on your chair and rolled around before a beep went off and the computer turned on. "Huh.. emails already..." you muttered to yourself before you placed your hand over the mouse and clicked around in the emails that popped up. The first one was some sent by your colleagues on asking different questions for opinions on some cases, and the others were from higher ups giving due dates on reports. You did receive an update on those reports, you had a few days since the higher ups were trying to find any missing.

How merciful.

You got straight to work, hunched over your computer to type out and print the reports. You occasionally found yourself napping and even went back to your room to rest.

That's how it was over the next few days.

It was complete radio silence from the vice captain, you had seen him shuffling around but he was busy training the new recruits they got. It greatly disappointed you, but you knew that they had a time limit when it came to training due to the attacks, you definitely didn't have the courage to sit down next to him or even wave at him. So what did you decide to do?

You didn't do anything- except avoid him completely. You assumed there must have been something stopping him, what if he was disgusted by you? Or he got bored because you were awkward and didn't know what to say?... what if he was waiting for you to approach him?

No, that was too much.

You stayed far away from him, using your demanding schedule as an excuse to stay away from everybody at this point. And soon everything slipped from your mind.

Until you found herself sneaking out of your office late one night to use the bathroom at the end of the hall, and of course you were greeted with silence. You knew that the officers and captains were out taking care of another kaiju attack, and hopefully you would be prepared in case anyone came down to the morgue. So you used the bathroom in peace before you made your way back to your office, you weren't even concerned about being spotted so you pulled out her phone to send a message to a friend of yours before you paused.

What was that?

You stopped walking and you listened for a shuffling that was echoing off the walls of the hall. Was it your imagination? Or was the dead really rising...?
