Late Night Chats

"Wait... so did I get that right. There was this dude that was working for the Nightmare King and your... girlfriend? And you cursed yourself to save them? But you didn't know what consequences this would have for you?" Izzie asked the Night Hunter, confused. "Yeah. Everyone knows what happens when you trust the bad guy.." Mateo added. "I was stupid! I.. wasn't thinking..." The Night Hunter said with a small tremble in his voice and looked down again. Suddenly he pulled out a small knife, cut the ropes and stole his crossbow back. "Enough of this! Where is Lunia's hourglass?!" He looked into the group with stern in his eyes and was just about to loosen one of his shadow bullets when one of the Grimspawn appeared with Lunia's hourglass in its hands. 

"Finally you made yourself useful!" He took the hourglass and admired the shocked and confused looks on the Dreamchasers faces. "Oh. I almost forgot.. I would like to have my weapon back, little shadow." The Night Hunter pointed at Kacy's spear with his hook. "Never!" she replied calmly but sternly and got into a fighting position. The anchor of the huge flying ship then landed next to them and the Night Hunter quickly jumped onto it. It lifted and they flew off. In the hurry the Night Hunter didn't seem to notice that he dropped a small seashell that Oz picked up and took a closer look at. "Mateo, what do you think this is.." he showed it to the group and as soon as Mateo wanted to say something Kacy interrupted him "That is the Sandman's shell! It can lead you to him. Wait... was that why you were here? Finding the Sandman?" "Yeah..." Mateo nervously replied. "Wait... Where is Jim?" Izzie then asks into the group. "Who?" "The Yeti! He had that around his neck when I last saw him..." Mr. Oz looked at her with a sad face "Izzie... I-"

Suddenly Mateo woke up. He didn't know why or if there was a reason at all but he did. "That never happened before..." he said and tried to fall asleep again but it wouldn't work. He looked at his clock, only to see the time said 2am. Izzie was still asleep so he quietly got up and left the room. He went down into the living room and sat on the sofa together with Z-Blob. "Why do you think I woke up?" he asked his green blobby friend. "Oh, right. No mouth, no talk..." a couple minutes went by and Mateo started drawing on a couple of loose papers. "So, if what the Night Hunter said is true, then he was a Dreamchaser too. Doesn't that mean that Mr. Oz knows him?" He drew one of the scenes the Hunter told them in a way that made sense to him. It showed the Night Hunter, the Nightmares Fang and the girl he was talking about in the prison, even though he didn't really know how to draw her. Mateo stared at it for a while until his phone broke the silence. Ping. "A message? It's from Cooper.." he opened it and read.

Cooper: Why did you wake up? We are waiting for you on the landing.

Mateo: I don't know. Can't sleep anymore. I drew the scene the Night Hunter told us about.

Cooper: Can you bring it to school tomorrow?

Mateo: Ah... I don't know. You go back to the landing without me. Have fun!

He sank into the sofa and tried too hard to get back to sleep, but it wouldn't work so he decided to check if Megan was awake.

Mateo: Are you awake?

Megan: Yeah... Just woke up from this stupid nightmare again...

Mateo: Me too.. Nightmares are soooo annoying...

Megan: You know what would be cool now? A sleepover!

Mateo: Yeah. Why not? We should really do that sometime later.

Megan: But I don't know how my uncle will react to this... He isn't a fan of those things... Especially not since my father died...

Mateo: I still can't think of how it feels to lose someone this important to yourself... Like my mom moved away but this isn't comparable... not even one bit.

Megan: At first it hurt a lot... But with time comes acceptance I guess... I am sorry I didn't want to bring that up again...

Mateo: No it's okay! Really. If you ever need someone to talk about this, you can text or call me. I promise!

Megan: Thank you Mateo.

A couple minutes of nothing followed until Mateo had an idea.

Mateo: I saw you have talent with drawing too. How about I describe a scene and you draw it? I already did this scene so if you want I can sent you a picture of it afterwards. :D

Megan: That actually sounds very entertaining! Go on.

Mateo: There are 3 people in the scene, it takes place in a dark castle, there are cages hanging from the ceiling. The girl is standing the furthest away from the main person who is a man in a dark leather coat and with a torn witch hat that has an eye on it. She is backing away in fear. The other guy is a walking shadow, that is standing a little behind the main person. He wears a coat with little stars on it and has a beautiful set of black wings. He looks like he is in shock.The main guy seems to be suffering and he is scared, as if he did something he realised he will regret.

Megan: Wow... that sounds intense... But I like it! I will send you the picture when it's done!

Almost an hour passes and Megan sends this:

Megan:  I couldn't really draw the wings so I did it without them.  I made two versions of this because I personally like the version without the shadow more.

Mateo: Are you kidding me? That looks awesome! Both do! You are right though... the version without Fang does look better... I really like how you did the shadow in front of the main person! It gives the entire picture a bit more character.

Megan: I like that you like it! I might try to sleep now... We got an important test tomorrow... And I can't fail it. Good night!

Mateo: Night!
