Missing Student

Welcome to chapter 12! I just now, while posting this, realised that I pushed an entire day in between the original timeline so yeah... It is like it is now. Have fun reading!

It was the next day and Mateo was as tired as never before in school. He didn't sleep the rest of the night and had to force himself to go to school. To his surprise he wasn't the only one of his friends that looked like this. It seems like Cooper didn't sleep much last night as well. "You two look awful!" Logan said in a somewhat sad voice. "I couldn't get myself to sleep again after I woke up yesterday... What did you guys do in this time? I hope nothing too exciting." Mateo asked his friends and yawned. "We could do whatever we wanted!" Izzie almost yelled from excitement. "By the way. Have you seen Megan? Because I haven't and she wanted to talk about what happened yesterday." Mateo asked and Logan put his hand on his shoulder "Sorry bro, but I didn't see her all day and I have been here since 7am... stupid teachers." he told Mateo. 

They went into their classroom where Mr. Oz was waiting for them. "Mr. Oz have you seen Megan?" Mateo asked him. "No I haven't Mateo, sorry. I think she called in sick today, though." He told him and Mateo walked over to his table and sat down. He was so tired that he would like to go home and take a big nap, but that is not how it works. The bell rang. "I hope you all learned for the test. Get out your pencils now and start when all of you have the test." Mr. Oz began handing out sheets of paper and as soon as everyone had it Mateo started. It was about a topic he normally did with ese but for some reason, right now he didn't even understand a single word. His eyes kept drifting over to Megan's seat but every time he looked it was empty. His head felt like it was full but yet empty at the same time, which confused Mateo a lot. His eyes were very heavy and for a second he closed his eyes.

"Mateo? Mateo, wake up." It was Mr. Oz' voice. Mateo blinked and lifted his head. When he looked around in the classroom no one was there except him and Mr. Oz. "Mateo, what is wrong? This never happened to you before." Mr. Oz had a kind look on his face and was crouched in front of Mateo's desk. "I haven't slept much tonight." Mateo told him. "I realised you woke up but I thought you fell asleep again. Were you awake the entire night?" "I was..." Mateo sighted. Mr. Oz stood up and told Mateo "You are lucky. One of your teachers called in sick today a couple minutes ago. Your class can go home early today. Just stay awake during the next two lessons okay? Now go to the others and enjoy your break."

The rest of the school went by quickly and Mateo, Izzie and Cooper made their way home. "You two were very absent today... You better be okay tonight. Okay?" Izzie told them shortly before they reached home. "I am going to take a nap now..." Mateo said and slowly walked up the stairs to their home. Inside their room he laid down on his bed and immediately fell asleep.

Around one and a half hours later he woke up again. "Strange... I... Why wasn't I on the landing? Why can't I remember anything?" he asked himself, whispering. Izzie was sitting on her bed with headphones on. She made one ear free and said "Look who woke up!" in a happy tone. "Just about time. I thought you wanted to check on Megan? If I was you I would go now. It's already 5pm!" Mateo looked at his clock and jumped out of his bed. "Thanks Izz! Can I go like this??" He asked her but her face told him not to. He rushed into the bathroom, made himself ready, grabbed his backpack and rushed downstairs. 

"Bye dad! I'm going to meet a friend before it gets dark! I will be back before 8! Byee!" and with that he closed the door behind him in a slam. Mateo quickly texted Megan that he will be there in about 15 minutes, looked at the address on the paper one last time and began running down the streets. "Mateo! Why are you running?" he suddenly heard Cooper's voice. When he turned around he saw him leaning out of his window. "I am going to Megan. Checking if everything is okay since she wasn't in school." he yelled to him because of the distance. "Oh. Have fun!" Cooper yelled back and closed the window. 

"Fun? What?" Mateo asks himself confused but then decides to just keep going. On his way he passed Mr.s Castillo. "Hey, Mrs. Castillo!" He greeted her while running past her van. "Hello, Mateo." She came out of the back of her van just to see nothing. She shrugged and continued with what she was doing.

Mateo was almost there now but suddenly he got a message from Megan.

Megan: That is really not a good idea, not now... My uncle is very mad.

Mateo:Oh... but I am almost there. Just two streets...

Megan: Okay fine. But you have to behave around him... or he will ban you from our house...

Mateo: I will! See ya!

There it was. A dark green door with light green painted vines on it. Mateo went up the stairs and rang the bell.
