“So, you are getting married?” Ava crossed her arms and gave me a serious look.
“Yes.” I avoided eye contact.
February was over. I no longer worked at his company, and Ava was back from her honeymoon and tour. We were in a café. The meeting between my parents and his uncle and aunt went smoothly. I thought it’d be like, "How dare you seduce my nephew?" but it was the opposite. They treated me and my parents very nicely, like their own family. Mr. CEO—I mean, Eden—talked with my parents so warmly, as if he had known them for years. To sum up, everything went as planned, and the wedding is at the end of this month. The preparations are almost done, including shopping for everything: the wedding gown, makeup artist, and God knows what.
Eden and I met several times to plan the wedding. He was efficient and methodical, approaching the entire process like a business transaction. Each meeting left me feeling more like a piece in his elaborate scheme. Yet, he never pressured me or crossed any boundaries, always maintaining a respectful distance.
“You never bothered to tell me?” Ava finally asked, her tone stern and eyes blazing. Help me, God.
“He... he...” I laughed awkwardly, searching for words. “Well…”
“He proposed to you months ago, and you never told me?” She was on the verge of exploding or I should say: she could explode at any moment.
“You were busy with your wedding,” I defended myself. “I never got a chance.”
“Oh!” she huffed, clearly irritated.
“Okay! I’m sorry.” I pleaded for her forgiveness for almost an hour.
“I already knew you two would end up together,” Ava said, a knowing smile spreading across her face. “So, when did you start having feelings for him?”
“Umm... well, that’s...” I hesitated, not wanting to delve into that topic. I really didn’t want to answer that question.
“Yes?” Her eyes were sparkling with curiosity.
“You know he is handsome and attractive,” I began cautiously. “And when he proposed, I got that strange feeling, and it grew day by day. On the day of your wedding, he saved me from that disgusting man. That was when I realized my feelings and accepted them.” I cooked the dish of truth and lies together and served it to her, and thank God, she bought it.
“Okay!” I said, pushing my chair back. “Gotta go.”
“Someone is going on a date with Mr. Handsome,” she teased.
I just smiled and ran off from there. It was a movie date today, and I picked a horror movie because I didn't want to see a romantic movie with him. I didn’t know how he would act or what he would do to show people that we are a real couple, so a horror movie was all I could come up with at the time.
The anticipation fluttered in my chest as I arrived at the cinema. Eden was already waiting near the ticket counter, dressed casually yet elegantly in a dark shirt and jeans. He was leaning against the wall, one hand in his pocket, engrossed in his phone. Every woman who walked past him couldn't seem to take her eyes off him. But despite their attention, he was entirely focused on his phone.
This man is going to be my husband. I knew I was about to break the hearts of many girls who dreamed of marrying him.
I took a deep breath and moved toward him. I was wearing a simple A-line dress with leggings and a coat. It was still chilly at this time of the month.
He sensed my presence and looked in my direction before I could reach him. Our eyes met, and I quickly looked away as I approached him.
"Sorry for keeping you waiting," I said, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.
