-chapter fifteen-

LAYLA LET OUT WHAT FELT LIKE HER THOUSANDTH SNEEZE, since she had woken up.

She was currently in the locker room her eyes droopy and her mind blank as she got ready for the day.

"Hey." Celina spoke as she pulled up next to her before giving her a terrified look. "You look terrible."

"I'm sick." Layla let out. Her voice sounded like a mixture of someone who had been smoking for thirty years and an old man who was grasping for air.

"Yeah I see that and sense that. Why are you here?"

"Rookies don't get sick days." She said pulling her belt on. "Besides with everything that happened last week I need to up my game, prove myself to stay. I almost got charged with murder."

Celina shook her head. "I think they make exceptions for when you actually look like you're dying. But you have proven yourself, you've done amazing work here."

Layla waved her off. "I'm okay really."

Celina sighed softly. "You should go home before something happens."

Layla hadn't seen Tim all morning. He had a sergeants breakfast.

"I'm fine I promise, I'll see you in roll call." She smiled at her weakly before she left the locker room heading to the bullpen.

Once Tim and Grey showed up Layla felt as Celina shook her awake. "Layla, we are getting started."

The girl nodded her eyes halfway open as she did her best to pay attention. "Officer Hicks? I'm sorry, am I boring you?" Sgt. Grey said with his arms crossed.

Layla hadn't even registered that he was talking to her as she had zoned out her focus on the floor. "Officer Hicks."

Celina tapped her shoulder once more Layla shaking her head away. "Yes sir." She let out.

Wade and the other officers winced at her voice. "I'm boring you?" He asked her teasingly.

"No, of course not. I just caught a little cold."  Layla did her best to open her eyes fully though her eyes were bloodshot red.

She could see the very worried expression on her boyfriend's face.

Grey sighed. "Just do your best and pay attention."
