Remus POV

Remus could feel the morning sun shining through the boarded-up windows, warming his skin. He heard a bird chirping outside the window, and he could smell the dew on the grass. Remus opened his eyes as he became more attuned to his surroundings, prompting a blinding headache that prevented him from standing up. All he wanted to do was curl up and keep sleeping. He soon realized he couldn't do that. He could smell blood.

Remus' eyes opened and he looked around the shrieking shack. There was blood everywhere. What have I done? He thought, at first, that the blood belonged to him. After finding himself free of fresh cuts, Remus felt like he would faint.

"Moony!" James exclaimed. He had been sitting in the corner of the shrieking shack, waiting for Remus to wake up.

"Prongs!" Remus was relieved he wasn't alone. "What happened? Who's blood is this? Where are the others?"

"Moony," James walked over and put his arm on Remus' shoulder, "you need to stay calm. Last night did not go as planned."

"What the hell does that mean James?" Remus's anxiety was spiking. His heart was racing and he felt like he couldn't breathe. He began pacing around the room.

"I need you to calm down before I tell you," James attempted to get Remus to stop moving.

"Just tell me James," Remus stopped pacing and looked at his friend. It was apparent that James had been crying. Something awful must have happened.

"Well, your anger towards Sirius went with you during your transformation, and the wolf targeted Padfoot all night."

Remus' heart sank and he felt like he was going to be sick.

"James, where's Sirius?" Remus felt his legs getting weaker.

"I was able to distract the wolf enough for Peter to get Sirius out and to the hospital wing. They're there now."

Remus didn't waste any time and began rushing out of the passageway that led back to Hogwarts. James followed closely behind him. Remus didn't even know what to think. Normally, he and the wolf are two separate minds. He never would have thought something like this would happen. The pair of them dodged past students on their way through the castle, and Remus almost knocked a first year Hufflepuff over. James apologized for him and they both continued their sprint. They finally reached the hospital wing, and they found Peter waiting for them outside.

"Is he ok, Peter?" James asked while Remus caught his breath. Remus was starving and he could hear his stomach growling.

"Yeah, Madame Pomfrey says he will be fine," Peter said nervously. He avoided all eye contact with Remus.

"I'm going in," Remus states, not asking for approval. James and Peter followed him without questioning, and they shared a worried glance as the three of them entered. They quickly looked around for Sirius. As soon as he saw him, Remus' heart sank. He could feel tears forming in his eyes.

How could I do this to him? I know I was mad, but are you serious? The fucking wolf! This is all my fault.

James put his hand on Remus' shoulder, figuring he was having a hard time seeing Sirius like this. He looked so small and vulnerable in the bed, covered in bandages. This is not the outgoing, cocky Sirius they know.

After letting the boys see their friend for a little while to know he's ok, Madame Pomfrey told the boys to leave. They did as they were told and they walked up to the Gryffindor common room together.

The three of them got ready in silence then went to the Great Hall for breakfast. Remus' body yearned for food after the distress it went through last night, but he found it hard to eat. Everytime he thought about last night, he felt ill. He managed to keep his toast down, and hoped it would be enough to get him through his morning classes.
